I've had the givi adapter plate SR684 for some time and only just fitted it today. I know loads of you have Givi topboxes (mainly cos they don't fall off like the beemer ones ;) and you can get two helmets in the box)
Have any of you got the problem I have, namely that the box rattles against the plate when securely fastened. I think it's because the Givi support plates that bolt to the OE rack are not quite horizontal (they drop slighly towards the outside of the bike)and when I bolt the GIVI plate to the supports it bends slightly which lowers the rubber grommets and raised the middle fastening hook at the back. This makes the box a loose fit which I have temporarily cured by putting some rubber mat on between the plate and the box. Does anyone else have this problem, I'm pretty sure I've fitted it correctly, also any ideas what's wrong?

Fitted mine last week - exactly the same. I just glued two bits of car mat onto the tops of the rear rubber stops. It sorted the problem fine until the buggers fell off  Just need to find some decent glue rather than what I found in the back of the shed.

Of course it would of been nice if the thing had fitted in the first place. :(

Had the same problem. My cause was due to the slot - where the locking clasp locates - had been inaccurately machined. The square hole was 1 - 2 mm too high. Showed the supplying agent - Hein Gericke, Portsmouth. Ordered a new one straight away, for me no haggling + no arguing = very happy punter. New one machined accurately and no vibration problem. As a result of their service that day, I have been back several times for additional bits.

It happened on a mate's Transalp. He got very annoyed on a 2000 mile trip to the Alps & back. Take it back as plasins says.

Thanks, I don't think there's much point in taking mine back as it seems to be a design problem. The support plates slope slightly and the plate therefore bends when tightening it. Like sys addict I've remporarily bodged it with some rubber matting but will probably put a couple of washers under the plate to stop it being bent when tightening up the bolts.
A bit dissappointing as this seems like a design flaw but no big deal as it seems very secure.

I had to play around with mine a long time before i got it reasonable.I also had a worn latch on the top box which increased the play but you can get the latch as a spare part for around a fiver.

Sorry to hear of your troubles guys, but i disagree with the "design flaw" theory...

I've recently purchased an E52 with the SR684 rack mount for the 1200GS, fitted it as per instructions and mine is as solid as a rock!! Definately no design issue, no bending, it's flat as a flat thing and works exactly as per design.

I would suggest you double check the mounting plates that fit to the bike itself and ensure they've been fitted correctly, my guess is something from that point hasn't been fitted quite right.

My "plates" don't angle outwards at all. You have used the spacers etc I assume? I can see how without the spacers it could alter the attitude of the fastening plates? which could cause the outward bend that you describe.

If all has been fitted correctly, i'd consider getting them changed, i can 100% vouch for the fact that they do fit correctly... at least the one I have does...

If yours is not right, don't accept it, get it replaced with one that does!!

HTH.. Good luck guys..

Stu.

Givi rattle

I have the same set up as Swebb and I woud agree as I have no rattle just a nice tight box, Check those spacers as they allow the mounting plates to sit level.

No problem at all with mine and I sue it every day, taking it on and off the bike as a big briefcase.
