Is it safe to fit this onto the tiny rack on the back of a 1100GS. I had a look and about 2 thirds of the Givi plate will hang over.

It works for me, and many others. Make sure you get all the bits though - there are a couple of support brackets from the rear pannier rail mounting to rear of the OE rack that provide much of the strength. Some leave them out when they fit it.

thanks for the reply, but I don't understand it. The only fittings I got with my Givi rack were 3 'w' (or 'm' depending on how you look at it) shaped brackets which fasten underneath the existing rack with the allen screw and diamond shaped washer going through the givi rack and screwing into the 'w' bracket.
I also have a little grab hadle on the bak of my GS which is missing on your picture, and this does get in the way of the Givi rack.

Safe? That depends how much weight you put in the topcase. I had 10 liters of oil plus other gear in my GiVi E52 for over 400 kms and the BMW cast rack didn't fail.
They all hang off the rear rack by quite a bit. I made my own GiVi rear rack out of SS steel and mounted it as far forward as possible without having to take off the grab handle.
I believe the "universal" mtg kit is for scooters/small trail bikes with tubular bar type racks.
For a secure fit of a topbax on an 1150GS,you need an adaptor plate kit where you remove the grab handle and use its mtg points to secure the plate/box bottom plate.
Depending on whether you use a Monokey or Monolock,the box will be much closer to the pillion seat.
Remove the grab rail ...
... and use the mounting bolts to secure the front of the plate (may need longer bolts) after all, why would you need a grab rail AND a topbox ?
The rear racks on 1100's are prone to failure if overloaded. The support bracket referred to in the previous post is a Wunderlich extra (Item number 8160500) which is secured by the rear pannier mounts and extends to support the underside of the alloy rack. It's in their latest book of goddies and well worth having

Yes. I had one fitted to my 1150. Might go back to it and junk the BMW Ssstem case box.
I only changed as the Givi E45 is piss simple for scum to pop open and nick your gear, in London at least!

either make up a longer base plate or make up two support brackets to strengthen the supports
What the others said. You are missing the cast alloy plate that goes underneath the one you've got to give it the strength it needs.

The site lists this bracket as for the 1150GS. Has anyone fitted it to the 1100GS. I've had a search around and can't find one for the 1100.
