i see a certain mr gerard watts of bridge of cally has a letter to the editor of the dundee courier today berating the boys in blue for their poor performance on rural crime. i would just like to say i totally agree with him. having said that i did see a polis car going up glenshee yesterday as i came down. i do hope that the polis concentrate on the light fingered brigade and not on us poor bikers.:D

Tee hee..what particularly irritated me was a fuckwitted senior officer being quoted in The Courier last week as saying 'rural crime can be perpetrated by opportunists or organized groups of criminals who travel the countryside.... ' Get away. Surely not. How long did he have to go to Tullialan to deduce that gem.

I got sick 25 years ago of 'initiatives' and 'steering groups' 'collaborative efforts', and they are still trying to hoodwink the public with jargon.

What they need to do is catch the fuckers and lock them up. Used to work a treat. That needs police persons patrolling though.

I'm surprised they left the bit in about a single Scottish police force being a failure, and only introduced as a political tactic, by failure Macaskill when he was working for failure Salmond, to create a distinction between Scotland and the UK , hence the continuing inability to police rural Scotland because the scarce resources are being used up in the central belt, but they did! Lets see if there's a reaction!

My last letter was about beavers... Nuff said.

It was always so. When I worked in Blairgowrie there was a bobby in Kirkmichael working discretional shifts covering the glen in his mini van. Then Perthsire and Angus were lumped in with Dundee and slowly but surely resources were sucked into Dundee because the big urban areas have more criminals. The fact that they spent their time stealing from each other and selling drugs to each other was of no consequence. I retired before police Scotland but it was inevitable that resources would be sucked into Strathglasgow.
By the way don't expect any admission that this is the case because the way resources are counted they may still be on the books in Blairgowrie but they will be "seconded" to a crime unit or a project like T in the park Planning in HQ and you will get the party line that now they are all one big force resources like the Braemar Bobby is now available to cover the Perthshire part of the glen.
Remember they have to find the £23 million VAT bill each year because the Scottish Government overlooked the fact that the VAT exemption former forces had as local authority bodies could not be transferred to the new unitary police authority.
There always used to be a very organised squad of game keepers up the glen that were pretty effective at keeping the criminals in check. Time again for some self help methinks !

Offenders will be dealt with at 150 yards!!! Good idea!

According to BASC there are delays of up to 9 months in firearm and shotgun renewals in Scotland. Never used to happen when it was the local cop who did the enquiry.

Oh FFS I am beginning to start thinking "things were much better in my day" I absolutely promised myself when I retired I would never do that. Let's get back to slagging the socialists.

The guy who did mine told me that they were doing away with 3 jobs in F/Arms renewals to be replaced by 1, the rest being done by uniforms whilst out and about. He said that at the moment they were concentrating on renewals so new grants weren't getting looked at at all. All about targets these days.

As he said, there is no-one to call House to account; the Justice secretary and all the apparatchiks in Hollywood can accept no criticism of their half baked ideas.

Lets just slag failure, whoever brings it about.

Presumably the f/arms renewals folk are civvies, same as round here.
Oh ffs. They gave it to civvies in the first place because they said it was a waste of uniform resources......
Give me strength.

The logic is that you cut the civvies and use a cop that was out preventing and detecting crime then when the question to the justice secretary comes up in parliament he can claim that there are 1000 more police officers out there than under the previous government.

It is not just firearm enquiry officers. Between the formation of Police Scotland and last year 2,000 civilian support staff were cut and this year more will follow. Some would be genuine savings due to amalgamation of forces requiring less duplication of control room and back office functions but others were in public facing rolls that had to be back filled by taking uniforms (much more expensive uniforms) off their duties to cover the gaps.

So there are 1000 more police officers out there but if 1200 of them are now fully occupied doing jobs previously done by civvies that makes a cut of 200 patrolling, detecting crime and importantly recording crime. Politicians, even the SNP, are not stupid. If there are less cops to respond to reports of crimes then eventually the public will stop reporting things they know nothing will be done about and crime numbers will fall.

I understand and support the desire to get more bang for your tax buck by squeezing budgets but FFS be honest about it and do it the most cost effective way. If a cop costs twice as much as a civvie and the job can be done by a civvie reduce the number of cops by one and keep two civvies. The alternative is to sack two civvies and replace them with two cops at twice the cost for no ther reason than to avoid admitting that cuts in budgets will result in less cops on the street.

You think Glenshee is badly done to. Shetland is full of traffic cars since Polis Scotland took over as we are an easy catch, there is very little theft here as we all know the sticky fingered and they are delt swift retribution without the need of the Sheriffs and social workers ,He was abused at home shit.xxxxxxxxx

Were you a cop in Blair? I grew up there. But I'm not related to the Mad Mullens. Honestly...

Are you sure? Can you prove it? You share many of their habits? Apart possibly from fishing? And murdering? And shagging your sister? In fact.....unless you can prove any of the afore mentioned...are you indeed from Blair? Are your arms very long? Do you have an extra eye in between the others?....Naaah you can fuck off as well....

Actually....if you were related....you'd be off to the Murray Royal as well!

I did my probation in Blairgowrie, 1971 to 1973. I was in digs in Rattray and had few incidents with the Mad Mullens. I am just waiting to see the crossed swords on an ordnance survey map to indicate the site of the battle of the marquee dance in the Davie Park. I arrived at the start of the berry season and my first sight of a berry camp at Essendy had me thinking I had been dumped in a Wild West movie. I really enjoyed it there but probably all young cops love their first posting wherever it was. The job seemed fairly simple in those days with no real worries about being complained about or landing in serious shit for anything you might have got wrong so long as you were acting in good faith trying to help the good guys win. I even got a dram put up for me in the Glenericht on the night I got engaged by one of the opposition that usually wanted to fight. I thanked him and he replied " this dosn't mean I won't punch fuck out of you tomorrow if you try to jail me but your a plausible little ****. Cheers."

I Probably would not last a week now before I got sacked for some indiscretion or other.
