Glodwing-finally got it.

Thanks all. Hoping I'll love it. Actually felt quite emotional as he loaded the Tuono to take it away. They're incredible bikes and this Goldilocks is very different.

That said, starting the GW engine does something to you. It's not conventional but instead seems to just spring into life. Like it. Nice exhaust note. The forward/back creep mode is brilliant, will make the bike easy to move around for sure. So long as I remember to release the handbrake! They make a flasher unit for the warning light which alerts you better so I'll get one. Feels very odd not having a clutch lever. Shame they don't mount a rear brake lever (like scooters) on there.

I've ordered the bagger rear panel (from the dealer) and the easy top box removal kit from the US. Not keen to lug that top box around most of the time when not needed. Will probably get a rear rack and a sissy seat but I'll see.

Make sure to use the handbrake -I’ve seen the slope of your drive !!!

Been admiring these and tried one with deflectors which seemed good...any views or experience on whether these are a ‘necessary’ accessory?

What deflectors ? ... what am I missing ?

First thoughts - which will probably get revised with a decent ride.

Had a 30 mins blast into the countryside and back early evening. Lights - excellent. Heated grips warm enough on 3 of 5. Front screen wind protection very good, but I would say that as I normally ride bikes with short sport screens rather than stock as I prefer it. Don't like the square shape of the stock screen...could do with the corners rounding off more IMO.

The engine is sweet. Feels very tight, to be expected I guess. Throttle is a bit grabby with the DCT and could use a rear handlebar brake to apply to soften things as you pull off. This may change with time maybe.

It's not fast. Brisk is the word I would use. Sporty mode is little more than a revised throttle map (quicker action) coupled with dropping a gear or two which makes it feel faster, but it's not really, just saves you having to wind the throttle round. I found the fact that it stayed in the dropped gear(s) even when the engine was unloaded a bit irritating. I'd rather the tour mode had the quick throttle action as it's in auto but you can pull the bike back a gear or two as required using the manual change levers on the bar.

First impression is that the suspension isn't as Bentley as I expected. My 1290adv smooths out bad bumps better than the Goldwing. It's odd, because it was blissfully smooth 95% of my 30 minutes(!) and then it crashed a bit on even moderate holes/bumps. That said, this bike seems very planted and stable. Coming to a stop you have to recalibrate...I was putting feet down quite quickly as I stopped like when on the 1290 only to realise that I didn't need to rush. Plenty of time for that. Slow speed manners seem impeccable.

I need to gel with it. I can tell it's real quality but it's not love at first ride. But the good bikes I've owned in my life have often taken a few rides to gel with. Apart from that Tuono

Apex

Hope you get on with the new steed....but if not let me know as I am thinking of a similar bike - albeit moving from an RT which is probably an easier transition

Thanks Simon. It's not looking good at the moment. Just been out for a 50 mile run. I'm still struggling with the resonance from the otherwise lovely sounding bike.

I just tried apple ear pods. The noise cancelling works off the bike but they get pushed out of position inside the helmet. Then I tried those tapered foam squiggy plugs. Quiet, but the resonance gets into my ears still. Then I tried it with no ear plugs...to be honest it wasn't any worse! But still hurting my obviously very fragile lugholes.

Not really sure what to do really. So disappointing because the bike is stunning. I've read on a US GW forum that the resonance can come from all the pipes harmonising at certain rpm. Unsure if that's at the exit or along the entire lengths.

I don't mind spending a bit for custom plugs with noise cancelling if needed, but unsure if they operate unless plugged into something. I don't listen to music when I ride, maybe I should start.

Don't know what resonance your on about, all I get is motorcycle noise. Remember, you're sat behind a big screen so your probably getting less wind noise and can hear the mechanicals more.

I read about exhaust "droning" on USA Goldwing website - like you , I have no idea what they are on about. Mine (I suspect like yours) - just sounds "nice" , esp when making it work a little !!

Sadly, I think Chris (Apex) is referring to a particular sensitivity in his previously damaged hearing which others more fortunate are not hearing.

Maybe that as well - but there is a (long) whole debate about "the issue" ... across the big pond.

Latest idea that I've come accross. The ignition timing may be retarded in favour emissions regs. Like just about every recent bike I've ever owned.

It's possible that Honda winds down the power until first service is complete. Attempting to find out.

Interesting...didn’t know that. And Cortina how would you summarise the drift of that debate?
