It should be the riders choice but if they say "non" they should have to pay the medical bills.

Fine regarding choice but about 10 years ago I stopped and advised a youngster on a DT125 LC regarding his lack of gloves , wearing trainers and jeans etc , of course he knew much better than the nasty polis who just happened to have been riding bikes for over 30 years at that time .

Next time I saw him he was not long out of hospital after months of operations to sort out skin grafts on his hands, legs and ankles , two broken wrists and a badly broken ankle (with a badly chamfered bone).

MInd you I did rip the piss out of him by telling him 'I told you so'.

Makes me cringe every time I see riders without gloves, boots and proper kit

On the other hand, I ride 'Spanish stylee' almost every day in the summer with nary a problem.

Not sure what that proves either:nenau

Just think in that US of A they mostly ride around without helmets, many of course could be described as just that...

I see lots of riders around the UK without gloves. Yesterday's star had , are you ready for this ? From the top: open face helmet without goggles or visor, t-shirt , shorts, flip flops, no socks, no gloves.
Can imagine the mess when flesh meets road ?

It should be extended to cyclists on the road. Speeds they hit on some of those mountain passes....

An instructor told me he encouraged the 17 year olds he trained to wear gloves saying 'if you want your mum to be wiping your arse for six months then don't bother with the gloves'

I'm amazed at the number of French riders who wave with an ungloved hand, even more in Spain
