My Akito gloves are starting to unravel and need replacing.

I would like something which is somewhere in between a summer glove and a winter glove i.e. warmer than a summer glove but not as thick as some of the winter mitts on offer.

Preferably something with a cuff which can be velcroed (round the sleeve of my jacket).

Preferably something with decent protection over the back of the hand.

And a glove which is fairly waterproof, but made primarily of leather.

None of the BMW gloves look like they would help me - i know about the elkskin gloves that Aerostitch do, but i prefer something with a cuff / gauntlett thing.

Any suggestions ?

Your job specification is remarkably similar to mine. I think I found what I'm looking for in a pair of Alpinestar Jet Road gloves. These are in between summer and winter weight, have velcro cuffs and that 'knuckle-duster' pre-formed carbon stuff on the back. Mostly leather construction with some textile bits. Also have Gore-Tex lining so presumably waterproof, tho' I haven't tried 'em in the wet just yet. Definitely warm, haven't really needed the heated grips in last four weeks riding. Very pleased so far.

Retail at about 65 - 70 quid, although I found mine in a big 'bargain box' in Charles Hurst's in Belfast - they are no longer Alpinestar stockists so they were knocking 'em out at half price. They may still have some left, the box was there on Saturday but I didn't rummage. 02890 381721, ask for Motorcycle division.

Ooops, forgot a wee piccie:

Heine Gericke 'lobster claw' gloves - won a best buy 'Bike' magazine award, warm and dry, and with thin inner gloves, just fine for the Winter.

Belstaff Dri-Sport. Available here..... for £60 which is a bargain. ISTR paying £80 for mine at the NEC 3 years ago. Completely waterproof, excellent protection and good feel.

I don't understand the affection for HG Pathans. Surely they provide about as much crash protection as a wet paper bag and they're designed to be worn in the winter, when you're arguably more likely to come off your bike......

I've had my Dianese Panther Goretex gloves for nearly 2 years and they're the best gloves I've ever had, four of us were in the mountains yesterday, at 6000ft, well above the snowline, I was the only one who wasn't complaining of cold hands, 100% waterproof as well:cool:
