Glowing Downpipe

could they be different thickness down pipes?

First time I picked up this thread, Cookie has a good point. Are these original downpipes or has one been replaced with a cheapo? There was a lot of thin stainless and chromed pipes about for R series bikes. I had an R100RS which used to heat up its pipes to a lovely cherry glow after a good run, everything was spot on.

If the mixture is correct, timing spot on, no sticking valve gear and the bike runs otherwise O.K I'd certainly have a good look at the pipes. Do they have the same finish and ageing?

They are both Keihin stainless pipes bought at the same time. I've just measured the OD and they are the same.

I'll get some miles on the bike and see if it happens again. I've just got to finish the fairing and It will be back on the road properly. It's just been getting short runs while I bed everything back in.
