Gobi System Question.

I fitted a set of Gobi panniers to Sugarcubes 950 KTM a few weeks ago mate. The panniers come with pictoral fitting instructions and the bracketry is very easy to fit to the bike. The pannier frames are not too obtrusive when the panniers are removed, and seem to be quite well finished.

I was surprised at the internal space in the panniers, they are smaller than I had expected, but seem quite sturdy for a plastic pannier, although I think they would not hold a full face helmet.

Sorry, but I can't comment on the topbox.

A wee read of this thread may be helpful. :thumb

Thanks for the link.
But has anyone got any pics of the Gobi's fitted to a 1150gs!!
Want to see how they look.

This picking your luggage lark is bloody hard work, so many good products.........but some are just not worth all that treasure.

A quick Google search will find you pictures, but here you go...........

There was a similar question quite recently from a potential Gobi owner which you can find here

The racks from H and B are universal for all there pannier systems and fitting is quite straightforward.

As far as holding two full face helmets if your thinking about the top box then the anwsser would be no, if you want any chance of 2 lids fitting you would have to consider a more "convential" top box like the Givi or one of Hepcos 48litre Journey

on a similar note, the gobi 42L topbox, does anyone own one? does it fit a lid? and how easy does it fit to an 1150gs (not adventure)
Looking on the motorworks website I've found a universal topbox mount (LUA610050) but it says it can only handle 5kg... is this right???

Also what is the security like?? do they bolt onto the frame.

need a box quick, I like the vario topbox idea of expansion - anyone had anyjoy fitting one to an 1150??

Thanks in advance! :beer::beer::beer:

I've got a set of Gobi panniers (37ltrs) very pleased with them but there is no way on earth you'll get a helmet in them well not an an XL one anyway, they're too narrow, they fit on the same frame as any other set of Hepco Becker panniers and as stated previously they are not too obtrusive when the panniers are off.
Sorry no pics of them on the bike but they look as good as any alluminium panniers can. If you are going for the full set inc. the top box there is a 'triple' frame available which will give you a saving of about £100 over buying the pannier and top box frame seperately.

Edit : re the security: there is an adequate set of locks on the cases but at the end of the day they are plastic including the single hinge that runs almost the length of the lid and a stanley knife run along the hinge with a bit of effort would get you in in seconds.

I've got the Gobi panniers and top box for my 650GS... they're as tough a pannier as you'll ever want.

Used one to stand the 'bike on to get it on the back of a lorry, when the girlfriends bike broke down.

Re security, the locks are very good but the hinge although only plastic is covered by steel mesh. They're as secure as any other pannier I guess.

Great panniers.... :thumb

Found this pic from when I was looking at all the different systems.............

Good panniers, it seems - but I'd be looking at getting a new exhaust so that the panniers could be mounted symetrically :nenau

Micky, does your topbox have enough space inside to fit a crash helmet and smaller bits and bobs??

Saw your picture whilst searching for advice on a topbox! cool pic! cool bike!!
The problems arose when the mrs and I went for a little ride, my standard black 1150 panniers made for an uncomfortable ride for my mrs. (ending in a quick turnaround and leaving most of the kit at home!) I was given an almost instant 'warrant' for me to go out and buy a topbox :bounce1 sometimes problems have silver linings! and the comfort of the passenger is always most important!!
I'll have to check some more stuff out but think the 42L may just do the trick.
