I'm thinking about buying some goggles with prescription (single vision) lenses for trail riding (instead of wearing my normal specs and riding with the visor up).
Looking for advice - any particular brands worth looking at? Oakleys are about £96 a pair, Salice a bit more...

You can buy inserts, that work with any goggle, that you have glazed with your own prescription.

These are mine, although I haven't used them for years...

I ordered some Oakley Airbrakes with inserts (similar to above) from here:

Happy with them, although do mist up a bit in damp weather so tend to save them for dryer days. Ideally you need your PD distance, but I just asked my local optician for this when I had a new prescription. I also got a small segment as intermediate for reading the satnav/speedo.

Contact lenses no good?

I use daily disposables for all my bike riding. Less than a pound a pair, but so much better than wearing glasses under visors, or any other combination I've tried.
