Going to see this next week

Looks like a lot bike for the money... and a whole lot of fun :thumb2

Mav I really like the look of it as well, has always been one of my dream bikes.

Andres Not seen it will go have a sneaky peek. (the Avatar is supposed to do that to you :kissy2)

He mentioned dropping the price a little so I may go in with £2000 that seems fair to me :D

Hi

Had one of those babies for a year, loved it,toured France in the rain for 7 days and i mean rain for 7 days, bike never missed a beat build quality was fab and looked as good when i sold it as when i bought it.....Have fun enjoy.....:hogroast

Why is he selling it without an MOT? - that would ring massive alarm bells for me!

If all looks good and you like the bike, I would agree a price subject to an MOT being passed (even if you have to pay the test fee).

If he's a genuine bloke, then it should be no issue, and if he's a wrong'un you will have avoid the grief of buying a lemon...

Looks like a very nice low mileage unmolested example of a 1997 RD07A :clap

IMHO that's an absolute bargain - even at the asking price.

Well worth knocking him down in view of the MOT but I'd be surprised if it didn't sail through.

Nothing much to check for as they're pretty much bulletproof:

  • Check the tripmeter is fully functioning on a quick test ride
  • Reg/Rec can self destruct - but new ones are only around £70 from Wemoto
  • Fuel Pump - can die if constantly run tank low - cheap to replace with a Facet pump for a quick fit and forget upgrade.
  • Wheels - check for corrosion around the spoke nipples - they delaminate from the inside, but should be fine if the bike's as good as it looks.

Go get it - you'll have no regrets :thumb

Thanks guys I really appreciate your input, I have spoken to him and he seems genuine. I will text him on Friday and see if he is still going away for the weekend if he is not will go see it sooner.:D

The bike is going to be sorn'd if not sold as he is not using it and he has no insurance on it so has not taken it for an MOT because he does not have insurance. Sounds reasonable reason but as you say need to get it done.

You could always agree to buy it on the basis it passes the MOT or even just offer to pay for the MOT to be done :thumb

Looks a nice bike, as already mentioned check wheel rims as i have heard a few horror stories of them corroding!!!!

My riding instructor used one of those, sounded lovely. I went back shortly after I passed my test (to pose with my GS) and his bike was no more. As he put it, the front end had collapsed, including the brakes, and it was beyond his economical repair.

Looks very nice but don't hang about or else it will go somebody turns up with the cash and he'll let it go so don't delay get in there and good luck.

As others have said, offer subject to passing the MOT.

Tell him that you'll even pay for the MOT, provided it passes or shows nothing seriously wrong.

Failing that, take someone with you who knows about bikes.

Good luck - it looks really nice....

where you at if it helps a mate of mine has a mot at west kingsdown.A20.by brands hatch..

You could always........just offer to pay for the MOT to be done.

Adjusted slightly Mav......... but absolutely bang-on-the-nail!

TG, don't buy it with no test, unless you are able to replace headstock bearings, swingarm bearings, fork seals, etc.
Tell the vendor you are interested, and could he put it through the MOT and realease the pass/fail details to you.

And, to repeat some earlier post, have you had contact with Timolgra. He may sort a deal with you......

Timpo.

The bike is in W12 I am in SE12 Lewisham, I am now going to see it Friday at 6pm!!!!!!

He only has half hour but it should be enough time for me to decide if all is OK.

If anyone is in west London around 6pm then feel free to join me. Although I will not be deciding till it has been MOT's as mentioned on here by several people.

Thanks everyone.
