Going to test ride A WC - service, warranty and switch gear question.

It's out of warranty, got no extras at all, crap heated grips, the start of corrosion and you don't get the benefits of buying it from a main dealer - i.e., 2 years' warranty and breakdown cover. for 11-12K I would be looking for a 64 or 15 plate low mileage model from a main dealer. Still in manufacturer warranty and the 2 year used warranty on top. There's plenty of GSes around so you should be able to bargain a little.

Comes with Navigator V - worth ~£400+

He has admitted that he got the warranty date wrong in the advert.
Thanks all yet again, I will test ride it, but will hold fire unless he gives me a superb deal. As pointed out, I would likely get as good as or better deal from a BMW dealer.
The guy is genuine enough, he loves bikes but is primarily a car dealer.
I am a bit fussy about my bikes, so the corrosion is putting me off. It is tiny, about 2cm, but as said it will be worse underneath the paint.
Thanks nutty for the offer to help source a bike if needed, it's much appreciated.

You should be able to get one from a main dealer for that price.
. +1

Even once your warranty is expired, buying from a main dealer will give you better leverage for "goodwill" items.
It's all about relationships.

Buying privately has advantages too , but I'd be expecting £1600 less on the price.

If he drops the price to £9k, buy it. If not, go to a main dealer.:thumb

Frankly, that kind of error, would "give me the shivers".
That one is , arguably, is going to need some cyl head protection and a mudsling !

Maybe walk away? Talk to Nutty (he mentioned contacts), about alternatives, there are hundreds on the, market.
Your money is hard to earn , don't blow it in a hurry ?

Good luck with it all.

Thanks all for the sound advice. Further trawling through the BMW dealers reveals there is certainly better deals to be had.
I will take nutty advice, ride it but don't pay more than 9k.:thumb2

Hi, take the reg number into local dealer & ask nicely for a history check, do a bit of background checking as its a nearly new bike has it been dumped due to problems away from Bmw responsibility..
If all checks out & the price is right I wouldn't be put off by your problems as listed too much..
Ps.. I have the lighter flywheel 2014 model with white springs & steering damper, just love the engine..

2014 model & later are heavier crank (no flywheel changes) I have had both engines & agree later is better though a slight vibration point (annoying) at 80 which was not present on the pre 2014 lighter crank bike

The heated grips will be shit as its a 2014 !

my bike was an early 2014 with poor heated grips, I had the later 2014 /15 engine fitted with accompanying sortware changes - grips now toasty! does anyone know if the later engine had alternator changes allowing hotter grips?

At that price buy from a main dealer and it will have a 12 month bmw warranty

I said don't ride it! If you ride it, you'll buy it.

Test ride completed. I didn't buy it but was so tempted. The engine is very nice, spins up quickly. It reminds me of the jump in performance many years back when I first tried the 1200 whilst my 1150 was being serviced. The only blot is the bike is now very 'Japanese like with most of the boxer character ironed out, but that's progress I guess. I still want one though, but may hold fire to see if the soon to be released new model is any better.

Have you ever undone the casing to put some black insulation tape on bars before retitening with T8 screwdriver?

After a 2wk Euro trip found the L/H switchgear abit loose, the T8 screwdriver makes no difference, so thought of undoing casing & putting black insulation tape on bars to reduce gap before retitening.

Personally I'd be worried about the engine paint, if it's started to corrode with such low mileage.
Lol, where have you been hiding??

They paint flakes off with the merest hint of moisture, my 2016 is flaking off all over the place, thats what haooens when you ride them, its a bike not a garage queen!

Oh dear, before today the last post was 18.6.2016 ...
