Hi guys,
Was wondering could anyone recommend a good loch for trout fishing. Anywhere in Godsland will do. Need a good campsite nearby or resonable B&B and Bike friendly.
Loch must have boats for hire, either brown trout or sea trout loch will suit
want to do a bit of highland touring as well. :oonyack
Cheers

Hi Ron.
Trout season starts on March 15th. Lochs fish well at different times of the year. When are you planning coming over.
Are you taking the bike ?
Arkaig is good early on (usually), could possibly arrange a boat/outboard for you.
Hismaj has been known to wet a fly in Western Ross. Not sure if he has ever caught anything though. :augie

The only time Hismaj is known to wet a fly is when he's pished in the Stein and cannae get the boyo out quick enough when he goes to the bog. :augie

Probably in late april but more likely anytime in may.
Go to Lough mask every year in Ireland and am a bit pissed at the poor fishing over the last few years, been fishing Mayo all my adult life, fish both the european and world cup every year, ( without much success:confused:)
I would like to take the bike, and would probably be travelling with 2 of me mates (also on bikes.)
Never been up higher than Glasgow so looking forward to seeing the sights.
Wouldn't rule out the islands either so open to all suggestions.
Give us a clue where you are talking about and i will look it up on the map.
What licence ,permit is required would also be of use.
Thanks again, :beerjug:

Good time of year, April/May.
Loch Arkaig
Is about 15 miles North East of Fort William, It has a protection order on it therefore a permit is required. Available from local tackle shop on a day ticket basis. No licence for fishing brown trout in Scotland is required. Sea trout is a different game though. Only a very small percentage of Lochs have protection orders on them. If you are going out to the Islands they have an abundance of fantastic hill Lochs, most of these will contain very small brownies simply because they are not fished very often and are over populated.
Salmon angling is again a different game.
I have access to an Orkney Longliner on the Arkaig, if I can Ill show you about. Roads aren't too bad up here either. :thumb

That sounds ideal to me, anywhere nice to stay round there? B&B,Hostel or even nice camp sites. I can look up but local knowledge far better IMHO.
Can you hire boat and engines here? Thanks for the offer of your boat but there might be 4 of us going now so 2 boats and engines would be better/safer. We are very experianced on the water and have all safety gear.
Thanks again.

Storr lochs

If you make it as far as skye there are some good lochs probably the best of which are Storr lochs 5 miles out of Portree heading north, the scenery is,nt bad either.
I have not fished The Storr for a few years but friends say it is your best chance of fish, fly only £8.00 a day.
Make sure you book somewhere to stay before you get here can be murder getting a bed for the night. There is a camp site in Portree.

Fife's got everything................

just the place for tourists,
see the pretty Pit Bings,
standin' in a row..

Don't forget Loch Leven. It has it's own indigenous species of brown trout, braw red meat, mmm.

Had a wee think about this last night.
Loch Sheil, some nice brownies landed there aver the last couple of years. No escapees, a lot of our Lochs are being polluted by the introduction of non indigenous species. Boat hire may be possible.
Loch Sheil, boat only for salmon and sea trout and brown trout, contact Ian on 07900 387150 for guided fishing on this very large loch (£55 per day, £30 per half day, equipment included) or the Glenfinnan Hotel has a boat free of charge to guests, call 01397 722235. Boats from D MacAuley, Dailea Farm, Acharacle call 01967 431253 or Mrs Dunan, Langal Farm call 01769 431229.
Loch Morar, brown trout fishing in this very deep loch (deepest in Britain)with the occasional salmon and sea trout, contact 01687 462388 for permits, boats from Loch Morar Boat Hire, 01687 462346 and Morar Hotel 01687 462346.
Usually fish Morar once or twice a year. Fits what you are looking for perfectly, boats outboards. If the weather is wild, stay in amongst the islands, if its nice head up to the top end of the loch in the morning and work your way back. The contact that I have for Morar is Ewan MacDonald Tel 01687 462520. Viv is the other bloke that I book through
Both these Lochs are off the A830, Fort William to Mallaig road. Loch Sheil is beside Glenfinnan Morar is just a few miles short of Mallaig where you can jump on the ferry over to Armadale on Skye. You just have enough time for a brew on the ferry. Then do some of Robmack`s suggestions.
More info on Scottish lochs here
Camping in and around Fort Bill. Lochy caravan park.Always good reports about this place and only about a mile from a rather decent pub :augie
Glen Nevis caravan parkAgain well recommended a bit closer to the town. Both have excellent facilities.
Bunkhouses and b&b we have in plentyfull supply. Local website
Chase the wild goose, again close to a decent pub :augie
Ben Nevis Inn Had some Tossers there last year and think they enjoyed it. Bunkhouses are just not my thing though :nenau Wild camping may also worth considering.
Right Im away for a wee lay down ;)

Fecking brill my man, thanks a million!
Think this is just up my street, bit of fishing, camping and touring on the bike. Perfect!
Thanks again.
