Gone

OP - just for my own interest, was the garage on the same plot as the house, or one of those in a block around the corner?

Regarding additional security, my view, based upon having been "raided" for my car at 10pm, when we were all up, by a 5 strong knife wielding gang (though I didn't know they were armed at the time) is that once they are in the property you want them to get what they came for and f*ck off - there ain't a fat lot else you can do.

Mine is in an alarmed garage and is locked to satisfy my insurance co. - if they get as far as touching it then they're on the property and they can have it.

Additional security increases the chance of YOU being the target, for keys etc, with obvious consequences :(. The kids of a guy round by us watched Daddy get stabbed just under his eye for the keys to his Audi - in my case I threw the keys at them and off they went.

However, my wife and kids (and me if I'm being honest) remain traumatised 6 months later.

Well I'm due to go on a weeks riding holiday with my mates next month.

Decided now not to take my BMW. Going to take my Bandit 1250 instead.

I'm just not happy leaving it outside multiple hotels overnight during our holiday. So a £3k scrapper is what I'll take instead.

I love riding any bike, so who cares, but I'm not leaving £20k of my property in the street overnight.

Not a chance.

I could live with myself if that got stolen, but my BMW is my 50th Birthday Present to myself, so it means a bit more than just money.

Times haven't changed, just my feelings towards it have.

I would hate to be owned by my possessions like that...

You ask anyone who's had expensive stuff nicked if they would do things differently next time to prevent it happening again.

Why wait until you've been hit to think that way?

Insurance claims still don't leave you unaffected.

In what way is it bullshit? Bikes are only stuff. You seem fixated on the fear that something is going to be taken from you. Wouldn’t it be easier not to have the thing in the first place?

That's my philosophy. Too much stuff is just a bloody burden. A load of shite you don't need that makes life far too complicated. No thank you.

So you're saying anyone takes or destroys your property... you don't care one bit.

You're saying you'd happily hand over your stuff unchallenged?

It's only stuff, so you're happy to turn your back on it?

Fixated isn't my position, best prepared is my position.

It’s taken me a while - nearly there after blitzing a load of “Stuff”

Down to one wife, one son, one daughter, one Grandson, one parent, one dog, one car, one house, one job, but still have two bikes and two rabbits...- something has to give!...

I am in the pub, on my own, pint of Masterbrew, and I’ve just read this from start to finish. I am now going to the toilets where I’m going to hang myself by my belt by the hook on the back of the khazi door.
Good bye .....

No, it really is just stuff

Just metal, it can be replaced

Of course most people would be happy if stayed put, but risking your well being and sanity isn't worth it

25 years ago, we were in Riano, Spain

All the bikes parked overnight in the square, near the rebuilt Church

Sunday morning and one of the bikes has disappeared:blast

Owner was a philosophical sort and just shrugged his shoulders, if the worst comes to the worst he's just go pillion with one of us and claim on his insurance - he just wasn't bothered, it could be replaced by money or insurance

Ironically the Guardia Civil found it about 2km's away, parked next to the roadside (so it could be found)

Some of the local teenagers had used it to get home from the town's disco

If your paranoia overtakes reality, why have a bike?

Well we'll agree to disagree. :D

...and I'll continue to enjoy the bikes I own, when I want to enjoy them.

So I'll leave it at that. :thumb2
