Does anyone know a decent independent service guy near Hull, East Yorks?
I was over this weekend to see family & friends in the Hull area. Went to see Altberg in Richmond, ordered some boots, got 5 miles on the way back and the final drive unit went the way of all things. Just loud graunching noises from the back and no forward motion. No warning, just went as I was coming down off a speed bump at less than 20mph. Didn't have the tools to investigate, but there doesn't seem to be much doubt what it is.
Got recovered by the nice AA man to my parents' house in Beverley (six miles north of Hull) and the bike is in their next door neighbour's garage (very kind of him).
I got a lift to Liverpool and am now on the ferry back to the Isle of Man. I need to find someone who will pick the bike up, fix it and either keep it until I can get back over in a month's time, or drop it back to mum & dad's in Beverley.
There's no main dealer in Hull (nearest seem to be York or Grimsby, neither of which is exactly close), even if I wanted to pay main dealer prices, which I don't. The bike is a 53k 2004 1200GS, so it makes sense to keep the cost down.
I would use a decent second hand final drive unit if anyone has one they want to sell?
It could have been worse (it didn't go at 2am Saturday morning on the M6/M62 on the way from the ferry), but it would have been better if it had happened at home on the Island, so I could have fixed it at home!
