Had BMW quotes for the 18000 mile serivice on my GS, between £300 and £330 for an engine oil change, valve check and brake fluid!!!! Absolutely outrageous. They also said the brake fluid change alone takes and hour and a half and accounts for around £130 of this cost. I know the ABS complicates things but does it really take an hour and half?

Anyhow, can anyone recommend any decent independents who specialise in GS's in SW London or Surrey?

Many thanks:)

on a different location, but v cheap and good try Steve Grover's shop Motoscot near Luton. Took him my 1200gs the other day for gearbox seals (involves stripping half the bike). My BMW shop quoted £750 + parts, Steve did it for £350 (the part itself is the size of a Rolo sweet worth £10...) Great job, quickly and efficient and also gave me one of his personal bikes for free for the day so I could return to London.

Hate to say it, but it's worth it. CW's just did my 18k for a similar price, & the brakes ARE better afterwards. They tell me there's 3 circuits to change separately. Add to that benefit of FSH at sale time. Also, if some gizmo came out that would improve your brakes for ONLY £130, we'd all be rushing to buy it. Pay up, take the hit, but ride with a bit more confidence after.
You'll no doubt get lots of others saying how they did it themselves with an adjustable spanner & some old brake fluid from a scrapped Morris Minor; if you've got that confidence , go ahead.
I've got a really friendly local dealer that I use for little bits, but not my 12's brakes

hate to say it but it defo aint worth it. In fact their labour charge is daylight robbery, especially as the mechanics are nothing special. Everytime I have had my bike back I have had to put the tank pannels on properly and get rid of all the greasy hand prints.

Try Steptoe, dont think he is too far from you.

If you use Steptoe (Kingston) or Brian Giles (Pembury, Kent) you won't go far wrong.

Both are BMW gurus of the highest order:bow

Another satisfied customer of BGM ( brian Giles , Pembury )

Fits you in at short notice and has loan bikes.

He has serviced mine about ten times and no comlaints as to workmanship or cost.

I use Mark Holden, Bromley, 02084644400 and he is excellent. No loan bikes but very good service.
