I've got to buy a new laptop, any recommendations on where to get a good deal from. Looking to spend around £450 ish, and prefer one to run XP. Would like a Toshiba but only cause I've had one before!

Can anyone recommend anywhere?

Supermarkets & other chains as mentioned do some decent deals on branded stuff.

However, most of those will be Vista. They will also sell very quickly so finding one you see advertised will be pot luck as they are often store only deals.

I bought an Acer from laptopsdirect.co.uk for my lad when he started college. The price was good at the time. They still have some XP machines available.

He has just finished his A levels so the Acer is nearly 2 years old and still working well. Acer's repair service is good too - as said in another post (it didn't break down, the lad damaged the screen).

As dickie says, ebuyer is often unbeatable on price.

Depends on who you compare them with.

They've been in business a long time now so people must like them, and anecdotal evidence from friends suggest they deal with problems pretty well, whether the issue is faulty goods or a delivery cock-up.

You don't walk in to Asda expecting a Waitrose experience. Same with ebuyer. You won't get a John Lewis Direct 2 year warranty but you are unlikely to pay the same price either.
