Hi Guys,

Ive put my 2004 1150 adv in for a service last friday
they found out that a rear bearing needed to be replaced so i said "do it"
i waited all week to find out today that the bigger bearing also needed to be replaced and that when they road tested the bike the front brake locked on only to find out they put the wrong brake fluid in when they serviced it and now they dont work so im with out my bike and now i have to wait to find out what will need to be replaced because the fluid melted all the rubber in the brake system they were nice and told me that the brake mix up is there problem but i wonder how this will pan out and could this damage the brakes for the future?

the cost for the service and rear bearing replacement will be £350 is that a fair price?

Where was that done then? Bahnstormer? I reckon they charge £350 to change a bulb so that would be a very good price. They charged me more than that to change the rear crown bearing a few years ago and I bought them them the rear diff off the bike too. Whoever it is, hopefully they'll discount it for their mistake. I reckon the brakes will be ok when they're fixed though - don't worry about those.

I think the £350 is the least of your worries. They will obviously do as little as they can get away with to fix the brakes so I would insist on a written assurance that they will cover any hydraulic failures for, say, 12 months.

You could insist that they replace absolutely everything hydraulic as a precaution - it is brakes after all. They will have insurance to cover defective workmanship so don't be fobbed off.

In the old days of Citroen BX's and the like, loads were written off as a result of putting the wrong stuff in the central hydraulic system - not that I want to scare you

By the way, what did they actually put in?

Im sure you will but i would take independant EXPERT advice on this matter, could be nothing or could be a future pain in the arse.:thumb2

Thanks guys for your responses which I have found very useful. I will look into taking expert advice, its just hard to know who to go to and who you can trust.

Was it a BMW dealer that made the mistake? If it was BS then I'd personally certainly trust them to sort it out for you properly. They could have just not told you about the mistake couldn't they and just run some new fluid in. If they've admitted it then at least you know exactly what to check (with an independent if you wish) when the bike comes back.

Fluid

I would think it was dot 5 as thie is synthetic ( wait to be ridculed from southwest London!.)
