If anyone is looking for a good ride-out up to coast for chish'n'fips, you could do worse than this one.

A clockwise run of about 200 miles, starting and ending in Chelmsford.

Leg 1 - 114 miles with a cafe stop near Stowmarket

Leg 2 - 88 miles with a fuel stop not far from Aldeburgh.

The chippy in Aldeborough is superb.....but for the wimmin out there (Tom, you listening?:augie) or those who might want to tempt their other halves onto the back for the ride, there's a realy REALLY expensive ice cream shop diagonally opposite the chippy that does multiple flavours of superb proper home made ice creams in cornets (the proper heavy duty crunchy brown stuff, not that pale imitation polystyrene crap that Mr Whippy does)

The queues for both the chippy and the Ice cream place are massive though.......but well worth it :thumb

EDIT> ps the chippy still does 'crispy bits' that are sooo bad but sooo nice :thumb2

Is this the route we took to run in the bike? From Chelmsford Tesco? :nenau

Do you remember going to the seaside? If so, the tide must have been very high that day :D

Nope. When we ran the bike in we went:

C'ford

Saffron Walden

Linton

Newmarket

Walker's cafe (Mildenhall)

Fordham

St Ives

Great Gidding

Kimbolton

St Neots

Four Went Ways (Comfort cafe)

Safron Walden

Thaxted

Chelmsford

See you next Thursday - beers and tucker.

Anyway that's a great route for running in your bike. Lots of opportunity to change up and down the gears :thumb2

we'll give it a go.

Thanks for this,

I've got a bike to run in 300 miles on the clock since Saturday. PhysioJo and I might trundle up to Aldeburgh and back on saturday, if we can.

Regards,

Path.

Then you best come with us on the 25th old bean, see Marks adventure,s post.

I have been given a "pink ticket" by SWMBO to go out for the day while I am at home on holiday. Anyone fancy doing this route next Wednesday, 5th August, finishing at Great Bentley?

Meet at Tesco's in Chelmsford at 9.30am?

Hi Chas, I may be tempted to come along depending on work, but wont know how the land lies until Monday afternoon. R u planning the route via Saffron Walden as that's pretty close to me at Royston or perhaps via Fourwentways?
Regards Brian

Hi Brian - no preference for route at all. I was planning on following the Garmin route posted by Richard. I am happy to meet up nearer to you if that helps?

Charlie.

Hi Charlie, sorry I can't read Richard's route as I dont have a Garmin, assumed you were following the "running in route" as above. Can you give me a rough idea of route and i'll give it a bit of thought. I still have the Tom Tom so would need it in .itn format or excell.

Route in TomTom Format

Brian,

Attached route in TomTom - use at your own risk.

Would love to join you but work is getting in the way again!

Thanks Nigel, i'll take a look at this tomorrow. Can you let me know what program you use to do the conversion with and possibly where I can obtain it from, then perhaps I can manage it myself next time. Regards Brian

Trace Your Route Everywhere - TYRE is what I use.

Do a google search as the homepage for the download seems to be belly-up at the momemnt.

Thanks Nigel, the files work fine on my TT. Have also downloaded Tyre, good bit of software which will be very useful..if I can master it of course.
Reagrds Brian.

Sorry Brian - I have been kept away from the PC by my 14 year old daughter ......

There are two routes on the original post - one is Chelmsford to Aldeburgh and back and the other is a circular route used by Richard and Tome for running in.

I did the running in route (or similar) with Richard a couple of months ago and fancy the Aldeburgh route.

We went to Aldeburgh for the afternoon yesterday in the cage and managed to arrive ten minutes after both chippies closed (2.30):tears

Let me know if you fancy coming along - I will certainly go, probably with the nipper as pillion. I have just fitted an intercom to his lid so will have my ears chatted off by the end of the day.
