Just so you know.... It can get a little worrysome and a long walk if the light comes on some of these roads;

Fuel stops in Chichester A27 Sainsburys, Petworth (next to Chandlers between Duncton and Petworth) Midhurst - several depending on direction of approach, Petersfield (A272 via southern A3 bypass) and Meon Crossroads.

Sorry if you already knew that or had one of them digutul' puter thingys wot tell you everything...

A word of warning. There are major gas roadworks in Petworth which are going on until April. You may want to branch onto the A272 and cut down to the A283 instead of going through Petworth.

There is a nice route out of the Aerodrome over the Downs past the race course to Singleton, joining the A286 to Midhurst. That avoids Petworth one way.

On the way back down the A283 into Petworth hang a left onto the A272 take the first right to Byworth onto the A283 to Fittleworth. That should get you round.

It's a bit like herding cats organising this run out ! So I'm sorry if I'm making it more complicated suggesting a variation. For my part I think we should settle on a Captain and let him/her decide. OldRascal has my vote. Done an excellent job.

Nigel, that's spot on and your detour to avoid the A3 on the last leg is much more interesting and scenic. So that's a 'go' as far as I am concerned.

Are you planning to come along?

Am happy to lead a "group" of bods if anyone fancies joining me - or happy to tail end

Pace will be reasonable. As an IAM member I am also familiar with drop-off system if required.

As a relatively new GS owner and with little experience of GS group ride-outs, I would be really pleased if one of you stalwarts would care to act/volunter as Captain. I believe The Stig has already offered his services as Sweeper so, provided he is still up for that we are halhway there. I can then just fade into the gaggle and relax.

I think we need to settle this now because there are a number of differing agendas with smals groups linking up elsewhere and others taking differing routes. We do need to fix the basics for the majority so that there is a level of comfort.

So who is up for it?

I will turn up at Goodwood on time and if anyone wants to join me then that's fine.

I am off work tomorrow so am thinking about heading out to recce the route.

Nigel, I don't think that you will be treading on anyone's toes. Apart from me and The Stig who has volunteered for Sweeper duty, no one else has stuck their head up over the parapet. And as you already have experience of the Drop-Off system, I for one would be happy if you accept the responsibility.

But you are right, as this ride-out is quite loosely arranged and we are meeting early with the intention of having some grub and generally jawing, we can work it all out on the morning. There will be bags of time.

Its a pity that I am over in France tomorrow otherwise I would have liked to link up with you for a route recce. Any chance of doing it on Saturday or Sunday, both days forecast is fine and dry?

On the 28th the curcuit is booked for GT & Saloon car racing. Goodwood are expecting about 40 cars & about 100 spectators but the kind folk at Goodwood have said they can accommodate us at the Aero Club, though parking may be busy and no lap of the curcuit I'm afraid.

Well the recce was quite interesting.

The roads round Goodwood Racecourse were pretty mucky and the drizzly weather meant mud a plenty.

The first bit to Loomies is quite straight forward and took me around 50mins. Loomies to Bury Hill was a bit different as I buggered up my navigation around Alton. I think my Zumo recalculated and tried to take me somewhere I didn't want to go. Second leg is about 1hr15mins.

Great day out today just over 180miles home-Goodwood-Loomies_Bury Hill-home and not much traffic around either.

I can't do this weekend working first thing Saturday morning and then out to lunch with the family and on a LAM social run on Sunday.

Just to let you guys know that you can have two dozen or more riders riding safely from A to B and allow overtaking etc ...

By allowing overtaking you all make good progress and there is no pressure for the slower riders to keep up. If you do not allow over taking then you will cause 'faster riders to be frustrated and may cause more problems.
There are a few 'Newland' boyz who will gladly fill you in on the day ...

Yep it seems to flow more with polite overtakes.

My first every group ride was with a bunch of advanced motorcyclists with bikes ranging from an Old Harley to BMW R1200GS to Fazer to R1. Overtaking was allowed and I quite often found myself being shuffled towards the back of the pack - obviously minimising the number of junctions I had to mark

Roads good at the moment

Had a tootle around some (but not all) of the roads on next Saturday's route. After yesterday's sun (what a blinding day!), everywhere is dry and easy to negotiate - even the small/tiny side roads. Gravel, dried mud and horse sh*t on some of them, but altogether, if the weather holds 'til next weekend, should be a lovely trip.

Hi fella`s just got back from riding most of the route, roads good and not to busy in the morning. Hopefully i will have my girl back for the ride as it went in to bahnstomers for a brake problem and ended up staying there yesterday with a knackered rear drive unit. But the good people there have lent me the 1200 gs, with road tyres be good to thrash about on it.

Next sat looks good weather wise see ya all there.
