Posting this just in case others have the same problem:
For about a week now, when opening a new tab and selecting a bookmark, Chrome takes ages to "Resolve the Host".
I did the obvious things like clearing the cache and other basic stuff then found this:

Disabling DNS pre-fetching and then re-boot worked for me.
