Likewise, Use it to plan my stops for a quick mid morning/afternoon coffee or lunch stops etc, somewhere scenic with a bit of a view etc is always a bonus.
I would plan the route, then approximately according to the traveling timeline/distance find a nearby town I am passing through or just to the side of to stop at.
On a map, it might show as it being on the side of the river bank next to a bit of green, and seemingly all is hunky dory, but Google street view will reveal, that it is in fact a fairly typical small town in rural France, with everything shuttered up and not much else happening, as it is often the case in France.
In big(ger) cities, towns I like to check for any possible parking in close proximity to the route I am traveling, but also to a cafe/restaurant I might wish to pay my custom to, thus neutralising the need to spend more than necessary amount of time wondering about in full bike gear, looking for that cafe/restaurant.
