Does anyone know a company/person in the UK who does repairs to Goretex bike gear ? I've got a jacket with a bit too much ventilation in one elbow (can't think why) but which is otherwise fine. It seems a waste to just bin it so I'd like to see if I can get it fixed.

Thanks

Dave

When I need repairs or alterations I take mine into Bike Stop in Stevenage. They seem to have a range of people they use who do excellent jobs which are fully weatherproof. It's a nice ride up there from MK if you do non-motorway with some lovely fast sweepy bends

Hi All

Was given these ppl details at the weekend, was told they do Gor tex repairs, will be ringing them later as I to need to get my jacket put back together.

I went for LSR in the end. The jacket was dropped in today, the work will be done tomorrow and be back with me by Wednesday. I'll post again on how well they do the work but if they can deliver on the speed they promise that'll do me nicely. When I spoke to them today they were friendly and helpful, and gave me one useful tip.

I've been using Nikwax TechWash and TX-Direct waterproofer, but it hasn't been stopping the water soaking into the outer fabric on my jackets. Apparently TX-Direct has to be tumble dried to activate it and many fabric bike jackets say "Do not tumble dry" presumably to stop the body armour being melted. LSR recommend Fabsil as this doesn't have to be heated to activate it. I'll be trying that on Wednesday when the jacket returns.

TX-Direct and all the rest of it is bollocks (it's just watered down PVA glue ffs). If the nylon that makes up the goretex is shagged ... it's shagged.

You can strip it with nylon waterproof tape if it's ripped by stitching the area first. The same tape can also be used to cover small areas.

I think I still have some left from when I was selling it, do a search for my thread. :thumb2
