I want a windproof to wear under my HG jacket. The thing is ideal for hot weather but as we rarely get any its cold at motorways speeds:blast

Its the draft that does it and wearing a waterproof jacket over top cures the cold but |I don't always want to do this.

I've tried on a couple. One only has the membrane only the front/face of the sleeves so the draft would still get in.

Another (knox I think) was ideal bar the silly high collar. Why put such high collars on everything:mad: You cannot then fasten your outers and head movement is restricted by the bulk pressing against the helmet.

So I want one that's just got stretch panels rather than loads of breathable panels.

Is a jacket.

Looks ok off the bike

Am I difficult or cannot these numpties design a practical item:D

I use a windproof / waterproof cycling top when i use my non-waterproof HG summer jacket. Folds up nice and small and did not cost the earth.

Think mine came from Decathlon

ive got a simple northface windbreaker with zipper i wear under my motorbike jacket. its breathable so no sweat / condensation inside. not cheap but works great

BMW does a windstopper type jacket.

They came out with a new one this year so Rainbow was selling the "old" one at £50. Give them a call.

I use the Edz windproof layer as well. A brilliant piece of kit, packs down into a small pouch the size of a mobile and is shower prooof as well. I bought the trousers as well but don't wear them now I have a suit with a thermal layer but I still take the jacket everywhere in my tank bag

Montane do some very good windproof jackets - ultra light and take up very little space.

thanks for the recommendations. After seeing the link above for the windproof thin shell I thought I'd try a simlilar thing I have for mountainbiking.

It still felt cold though. It might be due to conduction? The suit I have is one of those black / cream HG toe-rag suits. MK11 or what ever they are Known as.

It has a Gortex liner that the wind seems to blow straight though so I don't bother with it.

I think the thing lets that much air though nothing much underneath keeps you warm:blast

I have a montane speedlight jacket, I'll try that under but I'm not hopeful.

Put a jacket over the top and its fine. I have a BM black over jacket which I've had now for about 8 yrs and it does the job but with the hide away hood it restricts head movement. Never had a issue with my old lid but the new one is cut lower at the back.

I could get a XXL hi vis mountain bike windproof and try that over the top. They are less bulky than a proper waterproof.

wind top

hi
i use a pertex top ,buffalo, or montane , although any of the cycle wind tops will do , parrot is another ,low collar is a must . :)pb

Buffalo Special 6 shirt when it's cold, and a thin Berghaus windproof when its a bit warmer. The Buffalo doesn't look so good on its own, but the Berghaus one gets a lot of use off the bike.

I use one of those, bought it 2nd hand years ago and it's still going strong.

I have a windproof top that my Mum bought me one Christmas, it's from a golf shop. Vee-neck, pullover style, which does exactly what it says. Dunno how much it was though.

+1 EDZ shell top :thumb2

I bought a Revit summer jacket as I was going to tour Italy and then Spain, so I wanted something 'cool'. This thing is like a teabag - full of little perforations, and is great when the sun shines, however to keep the wind out (mornings and evenings) thne the EDZ top is fantastic and packs away to almost nothing.

Definitely gets my vote.
