Hello All

Looked at a lot of the posts on the forum about getting a numb arse, I went for a semi cheap option of getting a couple of sheep skins, however I did a 350 mile run yesturday and whilst I lasted longer than usual (no jokes please ;)) I was still in pain.

I want to consider investing in a new seat, but I don't want to spend £££ if it doesn't suit me.

So here is my question, is there anybody within a couple of hours of Taunton, Somerset, that might consider lending me either of the Corbin or Sargent seats. I would only want it for a couple of hours just to rack up a few miles on it, see how it suits me.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I will of course push a couple of quid to anyone who is willing to help, or beers, whatever you want really :)

Many, many thanks
Ben :beerjug:

Try borrowing an Airhawk and see how you get on - your bottom will thank you :D

Don't forget the Touratech ones too. Although the cheapest option is to have your own seat modified by one of the specialists. I'm sure a seat seach will bring up the names who've been used before.

New Corbin

Had my first run out with a Corbin on my 09 GSA this morning. What a difference. Little bit wider than the standard seat but so comfortable.

seats

i tried the airhawk, touratech seat and seat mod from viking vinyls
the airhawk was by far the comfiest i did 2000km over 2 to 3 days and when i got to my destination i would have had no problem turning around and doing it again. but i felt totally disconnected from the bike, and it lacked feedback when banking over into a bend. i then tried the tt breathable seat and didn't find much of a difference over standard seat. i now have gel inserts from viking vinyls, they suggested gel as i had the lowered seat and memory foam would be too soft. while not as good as the airhawk it allows me to go a lot further that the standard seat for me its is the best and cheapest option so far, but i still want to try bmw comfort and sargent.

About fitting the AirHawk...

Maybe the people whom doesn't feel the "contact" with they're bike are over inflated it.
According to the installation guide, the ideal setting is just 1 cm above the seat, the cushion works best with a minimum amount of air.
Do not over inflate it !

Seat for GS800

Just has the seat on my GS800 Re done by Tony Archer (see link below)
Great improvement:D also had Gel pad inserted (ooh err missis)
I will try n get pics later in week,& put on to show.
Cost for getting seat made higher , shaped, comfort foam only £80:D:D
If you want the Gel pad £60 extra, all prices includ return postage, well worth the money, not only looks great but fine on the Butt!!

I like my Sargent seat

I've been riding on a Sargent seat for a couple of months now. I like it a lot and have no trouble sitting on it all day.

I baulked at 500 sobs for a sargeant seat and had the standard seat modded by the same upholsterer.

No more comfortable frankly than the standard plank of wood. ( ok mine is a 1200 ).

Having had a corbin on a previous bike I can honestly say I wasted £80. I now have a dead sheep where the seat should be but at least I'm in less pain.

Hi Ben, I have the TT high touring seat had last year on a 5 day trip to france 1800 miles, (still numb bum) the difficult thing is it was fairly new and it has to give/wear in which it now has its good for me up to about 1.5 hours. But later last year had a 3 day 1200 miles in scotland but invested in the Air Hawk and can say its the best £75.00 i have spent on my bike no numb bum. there is a more expensive latex one but I have the plastic one (think they have the same cover anyhow.
a lot of peeps put two much air in the air hawk as ide says only a little is needed, i think its best because as it has air cell pockets what your actualy sitting on changes constantly with your subtle body changes in riding, braking, accelorating, etc.

I also feel that its down to weight a small lighter person may be happy with the standard but 15+ stone and a hamstring injury to sit on (old war wound) you seek the comfort.

what I,m exploring now for touring to hide my desirable airhawk is to cover that further with some kind of lamb wool or to be precise a waterproof pelt. Beaver , Otter, (nothing plastic or water absorbant) :nenau
