1997 R1100 GS. Starts and runs fine, revs without any problem. As soon as you ride the bike it gets to 2.5k and bogs down, misses and farts. It's had a new TPS, new hall sensors (2nd hand), new ignition leads but still doesn't run properly. Any ideas? anybody had a similar problem?

I had a Maestro van that did that. It was a cracked distributor cap..... so ...coils???

Clutching a straws...

:nenau

It's an 1100 Mort so doesn't have a coil pack.

Damn strange fault though. I'll try an airhead coil on it to see if that helps.

mine gets to the year 3000 quite happily - if yours is only going to the year 2500, i'd suggest its the flux capacitors not letting the atomic sub particles recombine going through the interstellar black hole system just before re-entry :thumb2

Have you checked the Jefferies tube?

my 1100rt blushed and farted and we eventually found out it was a cracked coil both the mechanics that tried to find the problem had never came across this problem in there 20 + years of working on bm's

Does that include working on the BMW's which had the cracking coils replaced with a new type of coil :augie :D

Just whipped the coil off.

1.1 Ohm primary 7.2k secondary. The Haynes manual gives 0.5 Ohm Primary and 15k secondary - any other resistances being banded about?

in the bm workshop manuel ive got for the 1150 is says .6 and 7 dont know if that is the same coil on the 1100

here you go (this is 1150)

Resistance: Primary Ω ~0.5
between terminals 15 and 1
Secondary kΩ ~7.5 when cold
between terminals 4a and 4b

Thanks Niko, Just measured it cold and the coil is 0.6 Ohm and 7.3 Ohm secondary so it looks ok. Looking at the coil it looks fairly new so I'm assuming it's been chahged at some point.

Rob I had a very similar problem with my r1100 gs when I first got it ,Motorrad central Glasgow luckily repaired it under warranty ,they had my bike a month before they sussed it .They had basically changed every electronic unit from a doner 1100,with the same problem still there ,in the end they removed the exhaust system and fitted a remus grand prix system ,Bingo it was the exhaust collector box or cat if it had one (it doesnt now).Probably not your problem but when the Hair pulling starts another thing to rule out.(1997 gs 1100).

Worth thinking about :thumb

I've had a look at the Motronic fault codes and I'm getting 1215 which is throttle position sensor. I've made sure the TPS is set to .370 volts and reset the Motronic - same fault occours.

I've buried my 1100 data somewhere :blast

Does anybody have the resistance value for the two potentiometers in the TPS? I've checked continuity from the Motronic through to the TPS and thats fine but I'm damned if I can remember the resistance values I supposed to be getting. I'm getting 179 Ohms across the pair of resistors (2 & 4) on the TPS but 1.2k between 2 & 1 and 1.15k between 2 & 3.

Courtesy of Advrider a data sheet --> TPS Data sheet

It should be 2k Ohms (+/- 20%) between 2 & 4 so my TPS ist kaput :(

Anybody got a cross reference to car parts for this? it's a Bosch 0 280 122 201
