GOT A WHINE

I'm getting a high-pitched whine as soon as I put the bike in 1st gear. It's silent while in neutral.

I am hoping this isn't serious, as I have a 2-week euro tour in May, and my bank account is almost empty

edit: got home from work and tasted the whine..

I get a whine when the bike is in neutral, running, and upright, and in all gears. It's coming from the front right-hand side, and increases in pitch if I blip the throttle.

Obviously I can't hear it at speed, but it's there otherwise.

I'd just ride it but make sure you have breakdown recovery in place!

When you say 'front' are you meaning front of the engine or front of the gearbox? - can be tricky to tell I know.

If it whines in neutral with the clutch pulled in, it sounds like it's engine rather than gearbox.

Alternator?

The noise seems to be coming from the front-right, either behind the fairing or somewhere around the right dash/beak. It's hard leaning over to listen on the move!

How about not on the move (i.e running on the centre stand)?

Also, try putting your ear against the right of the fuel tank (obviously not while riding ) and listen for abnormal noises from the fuel pump (although I don't think affected by engine speed?...).

Probably only running on two cylinders.
