Got her yesterday broken arm and nightmare journey home .

My wife droped me off at St Albans City station for the journey down to Ocean BMW in Plymouth.3 Weeks to the day since my accident and my broken arm and tendon which are about 40 % better (bike writen off).
As I sat on the 9.05 London to Plymouth trian I'm really not sure I can make it back on the bike 276 miles having not sat on a bike for three weeks and the movment in my upper right arm is very limited.The weather forcast for the South west of England is very bad ,high winds ,very heavy rain and flood warnings .But the back up plan is to look the bike over having bought it on the net and get the train back (return allready booked.) and pick the bike up at a latter date when I can ride with full arm movment.(I can't hold my arm above horizontal at the moment and even at that its painfull without suport).
While at home I've tried sitting with my arms out straigh suported on the worktop and it seemed ok ,then puting on my helmet and gear which was'nt easy as I can't lift my arm much.But I got there in the end with much stoopingand one handedness.
So I thought it will be ok on a bike as the guys at Ocean could help me dress
and the trip back is all A road and Motorway and the bars will suport my right arm !!
I arrived in Plymouth to be greeted by rain and Ian in a new 1 series BM and after a short drive we arrived at Oceans very impressive showrooms .
They sell BMW cars and bikes from here.We whent out onto the covered uper viewing terrace to see my bike,which was better than my expectations.
 
Hope you made it back safely, but if this is today (tuesday) and you need to break your journey in west London I'm sure we could find a space for you to overnight. Might even feed you :D Though if you're in St Albans it's not far from here. Welcome to stop by for tea if that would help too.
 
There comes a time in life when you just have to accept that some things have to wait ...

Riding with a broken arm and damaged tendons (don't think that your arm's going to be even 50% right until at least 6 weeks after the break ...) is not - in my humble opinion - any indicator of your stoicism, iron will or the size of your bollocks...

Why couldn't you have paid a bike transporter to get your bike back to you - it would probably have cost less than your train ticket and your return fuel cost - then you could have stayed at home and given your injuries a better chance of recovering rather than representing such a fucking mental risk not only to yourself but to other road users too ... :blast

I did exactly the same last year, ordered the bike in August but 3 weeks later I broke my right arm before it was delivered !

There was no way I was going to ride it, luckily I had it delivered but it sat in my garage until I was safe to ride it.

Dont forget its not just a matter of holding your arms out, you have to brake and manouver and although I could hoeld my arm out there was no way it was strong enough for about 6 weeks. Even the doctors said if I even tried to ride it could cause more damage.

Sorry mate but I just think you're daft, just my opinion, having been through it unless your break is a lot less than mine was.
 
Yes your right and if it in any way made me unsafe on the road I would not ride .The "break" is the ball at the top of the humerus, it is cracked.The tendon on the top of the arm are damaged but I have full grip and movment in the arm from the elbow down.
After a long wait and trying the bike I set off at about 4.45pm.
The weather was truly awfull ,horazontal rain and very heavy winds which on the M5 caused the bike to move across the lane in some very heavy gusts.
I filled up at one of the service areas and to my disapointment the range said 115 miles !! However it then started to rise to as much as 135 after I had covered 95 miles ,so a range of 230 miles is possible .The comfort seat is fantastic (had the original straped on the back) and the vario paniers are water proof which is more than I can say about my goves.
The bike goes very well and is very comfortable other than the screen(BMW tall option) which creates a lot of wind noise,I will refit the standard screen to see if its any better..
So the bikes sitting in the garage and my arm apart from some pain held up well.

Anyone got a mudslinger/huger fitted ,if so are they any good ?

Glad you made it back safe. I've got the mudsling which is a shock guard more than a hugger. It's great at keeping the shock clean however i have recently noticed it's been rubbing paint off my swingarm :blast It's only a small patch and i think i have rectified the problem through a bit of adjustment. I think the general consensus was that if you were doing road only hugger would be ok but if doing off road a large lump of crud may well rip the hugger off :eek:

I think you'll find that the range was 'greater than' (couldn't find the symbol on my keyboard). When mine was new the computer used to give range. However, a recall software upgrade ended up with a 'greater than'. There were a few early incidences with people running out of fuel when the computer said they'd still got miles left.

This bike has a useful range of between 180 and 210 miles.

Wow you really are the Stormbringer :thumb2, my gauge-indicator goes up and down then settles down and counts down ok (run it dry before to see what happens after the light goes on, in effect i get a lot more than it states so its a good gauge-indicator :D)

I have a Mudsling thing protects my swedish Gold :thumb :beerjug:
