I've now got my bike back after it had a little surgery:
1) new rear subframe to replace the one with the snapped sidestand mount weld
2) new gear indicator switch so I know what gear the bike is in now and can start it with the now present sidestand down
3) new seat after the previous one wore through at the lower edges where my boots rubbed on it when standing on the pegs
After a couple of weeks off it (I was on holiday while it was being seen to), I have to say what a pleasure it is to ride it again. It is a truly superb bike. I am firmly in the "happy with my 1200" camp. An excellent tool indeed.
As an anecdote, I should at this point praise Vines of Guildford, who, after a rather shakey start with the sidestand situation, have rectified everything very well. I received top service from Damien and may actually go back on my vow never to get the 1200 serviced there. The bollocking the service front desk team probably received after my earlier complaint to the dealer prinicpal has obviously done the trick. Top job chaps.
