Got my E4 Triple Black

I got my E4 Triple Black yesterday, lovely bike and to quash any further speculation, it does not have a carbon filter can fitted!

It's very much like the previous T/B except for one wonderful improvement? For the first time my ancient eyes can easily read the numerals on the speedo. :rob

Yes the speedo is much improved for reading, the numbers are larger, bmw have removed the previous grey border and used the space wisely, it now seems much less cluttered.

I used to rely on the digital display on my previous LC's but that's not now necessary on the 2017 bike....now it's much better.

Going to Yorkshire today to run it in over the weekend, I'll report back about the actual riding on Monday! :thumb
 
Hope you have a great weekend running the bike in. I was interested in your comments about a new speedo on the 2016 model. I've Googled it but can't find any info or pictures. Would it be possible to pop a picture on here showing new speedo format please

I always use the speedo reading on the nav 5, either on the bike info screen or if I have the map screen showing, one of the info boxes on the overlayed dashboard has the GPS speed showing which is more accurate anyway.

Good for maintaining a nice overtaking 50mph speed on those average speed sections where other people may be going slower due to using their vehicle speedos.

I don't know if anyone else has noticed but if the speedo needle is at a 45 degree angle you're doing 30 and at a horizontal 90 degrees you're doing 60. Straight up and you're doing naughty speeds.

Have you also noticed 120 to 130 a big gap then 130 140 and 150 are closer together :nenau

Its electronic so will read right but it does look a bit strange :rolleyes:

So a black border and a blue line compared to the original. Numbers still the same size. Maybe Wunderlich/Touratech will do upgraded faces to fit to the old bike? It is easier to read for sure. Have they improved how it is mounted to the bike as well?

Went on a test ride today on the 2017 1200GSA , it had only 48 miles on the clock. Air temperature was around 20C, riding around town the engine temperature went up to 95C. Used a low seat.

I was only interested in how the transmission was improved.

On my 3rd GS LC and the gear change was just poor on all 3 bikes, especially in town with the engine hot. Changing from 1st,2nd and 3rd was horrible and clunky, 4th,5th and 6th smooth.

Well the new bike is a revelation, the gear change is so smooth that even the 1st gear clunk is almost gone now and no forward movement. You can even use the quick shifter at lower speeds without revving to much. On the open road the gearchange and the quick shifter are just amazing. Why didn't BMW bring out the LC in 2013 with this configuration is a mystery to me.

In second gear with the throttle closed the bike just moves along with no drama... without any surging, just like my old John Deer:augie

This bike has the charcoal canister and lives under the tank on the right side as you sit on the bike.
The speedo is easy to read, the actual digits are a bit larger ( my bike was parked next to the demo, direct comparison ) so massive improvement over the old clock.
