Got myself a new toy

I had the same bike an 'S' Reg back in the day. It had the 4 into 4 silencer and made a lovely sound when you hit the revs. I loved it but it ran like a pig at the slightest bit of damp. I think it needed new coils and HT leads but I was poor in those days (well poorer than now) and couldn't afford to buy them. My mate had a CX 500 and couldn't stay with me. I'd love another, very envious.
 
A mate had one, same colour (were there any other colours?), we went to the Manx in 1979 or '80.

Although it wasn't "sporty" styling, it had the 4-4 exhaust, he rode it like he stole it.

Came back after a lap with a story about racing, sorry "making progress", with a locally registered Z650 who really knew the course.

Chris said he really had to work hard to keep up - at Creg ny Baa he had to corner clipping the apex and praying for no oncoming traffic (open roads) as the front brake wasn't quite up to the speed. It was that or entering the pub bar at 70mph....

When they slowed down into Douglas, he discovered it wasn't a Z650 but a Z1000!

Carbs now cleaned out ….and it’s ticking over and running a lot better😎

One of those (with the correct 4 pipes) just popped up (today ?) on local Gumtree page ... not stupid money , not cheap .... if anyone fancies one.


I just checked - gone ! Only lasted a few hours (was about £4K from memory) ah well - FYI
