Got something worng

I replaced the fuel filter on my 1150GS. Did find it difficult to replace the filter unit to tank ad thought had everything right but must have done something wrong because now have no fuel gauge registering at all and fuel warning light is on all the time. Bike starts and runs fine but starts showing symptoms of fuel starvation about 145 miles into a full tank (losing power, can hear fuel pump whining) - symptoms disappear when tank is filled (or turn reserve tank on). All the connections look fine so not sure where to look next?

Sounds like you've positioned the pump plate incorrectly and as a result the intake to the fuel pump is higher than it should be. Also you may have jammed the float arm in the down position.

Don't know what you mean by reserve tank. News to me.

Not sure about reserve tank..... But have done something similar when I replaced the filter on mine, unbolt the whole lot and reposition the whole assembly. Probably only one stud out to the left or right. Usual stuff about being careful with attaching hoses and positioning rubber o ring.

Thanks for your responses guys, will remove fuel pump plate and check all out tomorrow. Reserve tank - sorry, should have said, have second fuel tank on back, just means can raise level in main tank on the move.

There's a straight edge on a part of the pump flange. That fits against the indent on the tank.

Hi

You might have re connected one of the internal pipes incorrectly and it is holding the float thus preventing its movement, take the plate of and check.

How do I know..........

Fitted pump plate correct way round and normal service now resumed, thanks for your help. Now just got to replace rear tyre and fix headlight which gave up on Saturday night 200 miles from home and should be able to pass MOT this week!
