Are you referring to the Raleigh or the scabby chair?

Should definitely be the chair, the bike looks almost like new.

Great fun, I love mucking around with old steel frame bikes.
I've nearly finished a hand-brazed Peugeot, it's looking lovely.

It's a not very serious bike race. initially in Italy but there's a U.K. one too now, bikes have to be over a certain age.
People tend to dress in period kit too.
It's fascinating how bike specs have changed. Look at that, twin chain rings that are incredibly similar in size. Nothing like a modern compact. All old bikes are like that and they couldn't all have been flat track racers - I don't know how people got up hills!

It's got a fair bit of "patina" when you get close up.

I just had a look at this - what an exceptionally fine event that is! Vintage motorcycles, too, and camping and Lakeland bitter... and and
I agree that the scheduled July date is very unlikely - but I wonder whether they might move it to an alternative date later in the year????
If so I am all over that.
I think that what appeals so much right now is that I'm really not interested in something that's super competitive or serious at the moment... I think we're all in the mood for an event that's just FUN!

If you're thinking this would be nice but I don't have a suitable bike, this one I picked up 2 years ago and has been ridden a lot since.
It cost £113 and I spent about another £30 on brake blocks, cables, tape etc. It must still be worth £120, so we're not talking massive investments!!

The strip down starts tomorrow. It needs new tyres and innertubes, brake blocks look ok, cables are rusted, wheel rims need attention and various other parts have got rust. It has been stashed in a shed for a couple of decades. Still got the original pump though.

I’m liking the way you have connected the frame holder. I have that type of gripper on my fold away maintenance stand, is that wall mounted option available or did you just adapt it to suit your needs ?
I think gearing on the older bikes are better, for me anyway.
That bike gripper is probably the most useful tool I own! I didn't adapt it, it came as you see it. In fact I ordered a second drop-in wall plate which lived outside above the hose pipe for easy washing, chain maintenance etc.
It really does make every job easier. If you look on E-bay, they're only about £20.
Took it out for the first shadedown ride, all good until after about an hour the right hand gear lever snapped in two, I guess it is 30 year old plastic, so had to finish the rest of the return ride stuck in first gear. Have found a pair of alloy replacements with cables on ebay for just over a tenner posted. Legs like jelly and a sore arse, that saddle is like a razor!
