Just been reading some of the off-road threads, and it looks like WAY TOO MUCH fun not to be doing it, 'specially as my 1100 isn't exactly brand new....

Which leads me to the thread question. Which crash bars? :nenau

Do most of you still recommend the Hepco & Becker bars? If so are motorworks still the place of choice for them? Also noticed that they can be a right bugga to fit...not being engineered spot-on. (That was the case with a set of pannier frames i wrestled with for a few hours) Did they ever get round to English instructions?

If H&B bars are not the bars of choice then ignore previous paragraph rant... ;)

Thanks for your recommendations. :thumb

Fitted H&B engine and body work bars bugger to fit but look good and more importantly when i dropped the bike at v low speed they did the job.
Motorworks are where i got mine from top lads :thumb

Got mine from Motobins about 3 weeks ago for £105,47. Easy to fit. You'll find English instructions within the Frequently asked questions forum.

edit alert......... Not there, do a search, strangely enough, in the search field. http://www.ukgser.com/forums/upload/HP Bars.pdf

Hopefully this is it, never done the link thing before!

EDIT ALERT!!!! Yes, these sre the instructions for the 1150. Damn, you've got the 1100. ah well, look anyway.

Crash Bars

Hi there,
I fitted Hepco's to my 1150GS and I'm afraid they will probaby come off. £95 down the drain. Something else will be fitted.
They were fittes with abit of jiggling, but thats OK I can deal with that, whats got me is that they have to be virtually removed to get the black plastic cover off to turn the crankshaft and to remove the rocker covers when setting the valve clearances.
The problems are caused by bad design, which with a little thought (maybe5mm) they would have been a super bit of kit as the protection they gave my rocker covers on the rideout to the tank training ground was great on the 2 or 3 slow drops I had.

John,

Stick it in top gear and turn the rear wheel by hand to get TDC. No need to remove the front cover.

Personally, I've gone for the H&B bars, not only for the additional cylinder protection they offer, but I'm just too wary of attaching crash bars to the skid plate mounting studs, despite the fact BM do it that way! Removing sheared off steel studs from aluminium casings is no fun.

Hi,

i fitted H&B to my 1100GS no problem. Used the 1150GS instructions. One difference is that the rear mounting bolt on the right hand side faces backwards on the 1100 and doesn't on the 1150. :nenau Easy enough to work out what to do. Had no problems with them and the paint work shows that they do the job. Three low speed drops have more than covered the cost!

Only minor moan is that one bar touchs the tank and rings ever so gently when in tickover. No damage (yet) :nenau

Hope this helps. Best of luck.
