Can anyone remember why the GPS3+ used to turn itself off when running on batteries and you hit a bump?

I've got mine on my push bike now, and it's done it a couple of times, and I'll be fecked if I can remember what the fix was.

For the yoofs amonst you,it was the cutting edge in navigation 12 years ago, with a glorious tri grey screen and a pointer to let you know you were going the wrong way.Bloody good fun though:beerjug:

Yes ... it's 'cos the batteries, due to their weight, bounce about and compress the springy bits that press up against the battery terminal

Take the batteries out and pull/extend the earth coil wire thingy to make the batteries a tighter fit ;)

Hey presto ..... sorted :thumb

Edit .... the 3+ was a great unit. The Quest that followed is every bit as good, if not better :thumb

Just traded my Garmin III+ unit for a Garmin Map 62ST (€50 cash rebate from Garmin provided the unit is returned to Garmin before end June and you buy a Montana, Map62 or Map78 unit now).

I seem to remember I must have sent the III+ back to Garmin at some time and they returned it with extra spring spacers between each battery - presumably to alleviate bad contacts on the batteries on rough ground.
