GPS.. looking at 60c, but need some comments..

Kinda looks to me like the 60 series might suit you best, giving due weight to price/performance. However: Do the math to find out the total cost of ownership for all the different units.

The SP 26xx units are ready to use right out of the box. All you need to do is buy a Garmin motorcycle bracket ($30) to mount the 26xx on the bike. You can use the Garmin cig lighter end power cable (supplied) on the bike, or buy a Garmin moto specific cable (with bare wire ends, more rugged cable cover for moto use) as an accessory.

It sounds like you need to buy cartography for the 60 series and 276C - either CitySelect if you want autorouting on the GPSR, or MetroGuide if you want the identical map presentation only, and no autorouting. Might need a power cable and a moto mount bracket for it as well, I'm not sure about this.

You will also need to buy a data chip for the 276C to store the map data on. It might be cheapest to look at buying the car kit for the 276C, this includes a cartography CD, extra bracket, and data chip. It also includes an additional power cable with a cig lighter end and a speaker built in, which means you can use the marine power cable (with bare wire ends) that comes with the basic kit to power the unit on your moto.

Let us know what the final "on the road" costs are for all three combinations. For sake of simplicity, you might want to use the published USD prices from Garmin's website. I know these prices are for Americas units with American maps, and they are full list, but we can easily figure out a pretty accurate scale factor to adapt them to mail order or "big box retailer" prices in Europe for Atlantic (european spec) units.

Hi Guys, thanks for all the comments. I am going to take Pans advice and hold off making a chioce just now.
As i figure it, the 60c is probably going to be the best unit, if i can get some map software for it. I want too autoroute, so its a case of finding how much the software is.

I do lik the 276c as it the big screen is good for on bike use. However its costs seem to be prohibative. At the moment the GPS is a luxury,, not an nessesity so going to hold on and see how prices pan out.

Currently waiting to hear back from a couple of places with quotes for prices and software.. will post my findings when they are in..

Cheers for all those that have helped,, I wish there was some way of sencibly saving all of the comments, so that Pan and others dont have to repeat them selfs when the next person comes along..

Sorry Pan, could you elaborate? Do you mean that the 296/276 doesn't give the fastest/shortest option when calculating a route, or does it not give the option to define preferences of each type of road, as my GPSV does?

If you don't need one now, perhaps you could wait 'til we get more details on the 'Quest' unit just announced (see here).

If it has decent autorouting options, it might be just the job...
