Allihies again.. but off to Asia soon....
Yosi passed this site info onto me a while ago. I have had a look at the site but as yet have not downloaded or installed it. Does anyone including Yosi know how good it gets. I realise that I can scan OS maps and use them on the GPS but can I get to a level of information where I can do turn to turn navigation using an OS map. Or is it more a case of the GPS showing you on the map where you are. The reason I have not tried it yet being that I am still playing with the toy as its supposed to be used.

And the reason I'm asking is I'd like to spend the time to scan the South west of Ireland but if I can't get it to do turn by turn navigation maybe I'll spend less time on it. Simply as I know most of the roads of interest anyway. But others don't and I'd do it to share the info with other people.

Hmmmmm, Vey interesting responses, Is Yosi the only guy to have tried this site. Is everyone happy wiith the routing that they get when in strange lands not covered by Garmin. Looks like it.

I'll give it a go sometime and let you know....

what site? url would be good

Sorry the site is www.gpsu.co.uk it (the siteà does not look very well made but the product sounds interesting and has a shareware version...

I just have not had time to try it and am looking for any ideas on how good it might or might not be...

I don't know the program Richie, but if you are talking about scanned maps, I'm sure you can never do turn-by-turn navigation on them. You need additional digital information for that.

Cheers,
Michel

Migsel is right. You can't do turn-by-turn unless you have dedicated software. What GPSU does is letting you scan and calibrate maps which are not included in the standard Garmin soft, create your own maps and routes, waypoints, etc based on this new map and download the info into the GPS as tracks or waypoints.
Is even possible to calibrate a hand drawn map or even a blank piece of paper. You'll need 2 coordinates in the area and that's it.

Personally, I use it in conjunction with MS Autoroute and it works a threat. Interesdting to note that if you have a turn by turn GPS, the route you created and downloaded witll be recognized by the Garmin (PROVIDING THE CORRESPONDING GARMIN MAP is loaded) and will give you turn by turn mapping of the route. Why is good? because most of the time I want to go my way and not the way Garmin think is better for me.

Download the freeware but also the manual. A bit complicated but in the end it make sense...
