I used a saved track log to record a route for a ride out. When I plotted the route on Mapsource everything seemd fine but when I rode the route several times the routing instructions came up 'Turn left' or 'Turn right' when the road arrow was pointing the exact opposite. After a few frustration of being told 'off route recalculating' I figured that the graphic road display was the one to follow and not the text . Riding on further I lost the route several tiimes and had to turn around even though it appeared on screen as if I was still on the route.
Has anyone else had similar problems ? I was wondering if the fact that I was using the track log as the basis for making the initial route that somehow it got confused. This is the first time I have had any real disappointments with the GPS V but I have to admit it let me down badly and sent me all over the place to the point where I gave up trying to follow the preset route and I just aimed for certain sections that I recalled from my own abundant memory instead.....:D (well it's more abundant than the GPS V's 19MB I hope...)

Hi, I've had some iffy routing once on my V before, but put that down to the internal batteries going flat in the cold, i repeated the same trip with em fully charged and all was fine..... other than that once occasion its been fine:D

Gecko,

Have you updated mapsource since you have up/downloaded tracks to your computer from the V?

If the Mapsource software on the V is a bit older than the main Mapsource the V can get corrupted.

I had this problem recently when I tried to open routes off the internet, they worked fine on my computer but they wouldn't work on my Garmin V.

Hi Andy
Good point and yes I think I have upgraded at the end of last year. The tracks were recorded on an earlier version last summer or maybe even longer ago as I think about it. You could have a point - at least it would be some kind of explanation.
Cheers :thumb - I'll test it by recording a new track and doing the same again to see if I get the problem to repeat.

Track following

Gecko: Check that the thingy is set "Route up" and not "North up" in the map setup menu. I don't have the GPS with me so I can't be certain of the exact words but is something like that.
Get yourself a GPS II+ and you'll have a true navigating device...

Hope it came out all right...Left the reading glasses at home...
