GPS Volume via Autocom

I have recently bought a new Arai Tour X lid. In my old system 4 BMW lid I had the autocom headset linked to my Navigator I. At full volume on the GPS I could still hear it, though only just, when travelling at speeds over 70/80mph.

With the new lid, I just can't make it out at all.

Is there any wany to boost the GPS volume, I realise the problem is in the helmet as there is just more wind noise, but if there was a way to increase the volume it may overcome this.

Any reasonable advice welcome.

This may seem a stupid question but have you ajusted the volume on the autocom? as i can hear my 2610 at whatever speed with earplugs in.

This again will sound daft, but have you adjusted the volume on the unit ? On the SP3 at any rate, just press and hold the "Speak" button, and use the rocker keypad to push the volume bar to its highest setting.

If it's so loud that you cack yourself when she tells you where to go next, repeat the process until you stop cacking yourself. :D :D

EJ,

Volume is right up on the SPIII Unit. I have'nt looked at the Autocom, but as far as I remember there is no volume adjustment on it, there are just jack plugs to 'plug in'.

On the system 4 lid it was fine.

Any other suggestions....realistic suggestions?

Speaker location is highly sensitive if you are an ear plug wearer. Sounds like your speakers may be at optimum position for comfort but not for sound.

Put some talcum powder on your ears then put the helmet on. Then off again and see how well the ear marks line up with the exisitng location of the speakers.

I gave up with all that nonsense and went the way of custom moudled montiors from here

Now volume on GPS is 2 or 3 if playing music. :dj

The Autocom speakers are very sensitive to correct positioning, in order to hear them at full volume. The centre of the speaker needs to lined up with the centre of your ear canal (is that the correct term?). Try adjusting the position of the speakers to see if that boosts the volume you hear, before dropping cash on additional hardware.

Hope this helps

Paul

Which Autocom do you have? My active 7 smart has a VOX control AND a volume control I'd be surprised if the others didnt.

I'm in work now, so not in a position to look at the autocom, but it's the all singing, all dancing one. It's bike wired and located under the gap under the tank where it meets the seat, so I'll have a look at it when I get home.

Thanks for the advice about the speakers in the helmet, I'll try that.

Had a look at the boostaroo thingy, I might order one if I cant sort something out.

Cheers Guys.;) ;)

Active 7 Smart (the fag packet sized one) has a volume control.

Pro 7 Sport (the one I'm presuming is described as all-singing, all-dancing) does not have a volume control.

The former unit was brought out to deal with the need in Autocom's eye to deliver more sound to your ears to combat the use of ear plugged users who complained of not enough sound.

That's also the reason for bike powering the unit also, the new smaller unit will draw more current and suck the life out of the single 9 volt battery in no time. Not that the Pro series was particularly good on lasting when on batteries.

You are right, it's a Pro 7 Sport model, and I'm right no volume control. I'm going to attempt to adjust the ear pieces in the helmet using the 'talc' method. I'll keep you posted.

Funny thing is, bike to bike is perfect as is the music volume, it's just the GPS.

That last bit bothers me, if it were all of them then it would point towards my original suggestion of poor speaker placement.

Confirm you are using the correct Autocom lead from GPS to Autocom and that both ends of the lead are pushed firmly home into their sockets.

Pro 7 DOES have volume control

I have a Pro 7 sport model, and it does have a very primative volume control.

the unit should have come with what looks like a "blanked off" 3.5mm jack plug, this plugs into a socket on the end, which is designed to boost the volume for use with ear plugs....

it's primative, but it should boost your volume by appx 50% ISTR

hope that helps..... :D

The blanking jack plug is in place and all the connections to and from the GPS are also connected correctly.

Still have'nt had the time to play with the talc, I suspect this may be the root of the problem, the ear pieces may be best set for comfort and not for best volume.
