Hi,

I've built GPS maps covering the world from public domain and donated data, the idea is to help fund my 'round the world ride' (now in its fourth year) and share profits with a charity back home.

The first version (1.51) is now available from http://www.smellybiker.com/maps

To get the maps you need to sign up as a Lifetime Member which is a one-time charge of 25 pounds via PayPal, or you can download screenshots of the maps working with MapSource to see what they're like.

Lifetime membership gets you download access the current release, future versions and updates, forever. I hope to release updates at least every two months.

More about the maps :-

- 5400 maps, 3x3 degree tiles
- covers N75-S60 & all the way around
- minimum resolution is similar to the basemap, enhanced with vmap1 & donated data
- not routable (but I have a cunning plan)
- download size 304Mb, install size 446Mb
- integrates with MapSource using a Windows installer/uninstaller

Acknowledgements :-
- Stanislaw Kozicki for the commercial version of his compiler
- Konstantin Galichsky for the map editor
- Nikolay Kabulov for an amazing dataset of rivers, oceans & coastlines
- Mapear for the S.American data
- 'Redboots' for the Russian data (will be in version 1.6)
- NetFlare for hosting the website
... and all who contributed data, tracks, waypoints, time & expertise.

Good ghod man, could you make it any more difficult to pay £25 for the pleasure of membership?

I looked at each page on the site and searched the forum, then decided to try to download a "Members" file package to see what happened - oh look, there's a "pay now" button...

Can I suggest a "Buy Membership" page on the site might be a useful addition...

Good idea, it does need to be simpler. I'll get that done today.

Thats sorted, non-members get a buy now button on their home page.

Thanks for the comments & keep 'em coming - helps the site & maps evolve.

No, you dont need the Garmin Worldmap.

These maps do everything you've mentioned. They're not routable (neither is Garmins) but you can use MapSource to do what you've described.

If your GPS has a built in basemap for your region that'll give you basic routing while travelling there but outside that region you're down to using waypoints.

Hope that helps
Works prefectly on the PC, I have the Ireland CityNav Ver8 and Marroco
Topo Maps
loaded on my Quest, but I selected tiles of the Marocco
Wanderlust Maps
and they don't show up on the "Map Info" on the Quest.
When I "Transfer to Device" the two sets of maps show up, not three, and there are
no waypoints to transfer (I thought your maps might have been made up of waypoints).
Does this mean they haven't loaded, see pic.

Thanks, Daithi:thumb

Should be OK, I've been using these on my GPSV for a while now.

The maps are 'proper' maps, not waypoints, but should appear in the MapInfo page on the GPS.

I'll be on MSN messenger most of the day (see profile for address) - happy to walk you through it if you're still stuck.
