I had a look at a few more. The track tends to be someway off the roads, as if someone doing the conversion cocked up the french grid projections when converting to WGS84 Lat and Long that most GPS software uses.

FWIW there is an app called GPX viewer which I find quite handy when just wanting a fast quick look-see on my phone.
Free version works fine- paid one extra features

Indeed.

The 100 routes that I somewhat lovingly created in MapSource, using nothing more than a map and the book’s route cards, were better made. I even spotted the odd mistake in the route cards, too. Things like, turn left, when they meant turn right. This mistake in direction used to drive me mad, as it had me tracing a road with my finger on the map, wondering how the hell it was meant to connect to the next direction. Suddenly the light came on.
