Whilst they now hide motorcycling away and boost bicycling and ‘wellness’ instead, the tourist office has not forgotten us entirely, quite yet.

I downloaded the two routes from the tourist office’s website, a while ago. Unfortunately, the download was corrupted, with the routes obscured by a mass of straight lines. With a bit of patience, I have cleaned them up and got them into a useable form.

They are not bad suggestions at all.

Day 1 - 150 miles

Day 2 - 102 miles

Base yourself somewhere convenient for both days ie. Where the routes come close to one another.

Hotel Le Pelican in Charlie Mez where we stayed a few years ago would be a good base with their aircraft hanger for a car park and proximity to city centre eateries

If you did opt to stay in or near Charleville-Mézières. then this jaunt might well make a pleasant enough day out:

I picked it up from the book ‘Week-ends à moto’. It’s in foreign but easy enough to understand and the pictures are nice.

It’s not that far from Calais to Charleville-Mézières. Just take the motorway to Cambrai (or take the D roads) and then follow the green signs. Got a route, mate? Natch, mate, I’ll get Kurviger to do it for me:

But that’s got motorway in it, mate. Don’t do motorways. Got another route for me and my six mates, mate?

Natch, mate:

An instant short or weeklong holiday, using nothing more than an iPad, a few routes picked up from books and / or the internet. Very little effort required.

I really appreciate all the input and time you put into these routes and adding all the info Wapping

Just back from one euro trip and want to go back for a shorter jaunt in September now with the wife.
This makes a perfect week with a stop outside Calais there and back to break up the journey. (Bermicourt - awesome stay)
With couple or three riding days based in C Mez. Not too long for the pillion.
-and thanks to Wessie for the hotel suggestion in C Mez. You alreay did me proud for dinner ideas when I was in Obernai !

thanks again

Hi Richard, thank you for this thread about C.Mez and associated routes. I was planning my 2025 jaunt to Luxembourg and could not find anything suitable for our group in Bouillon or Sedan overnight. I had spied C.Mez as a potential alternative, especially as it is well placed to ride the finger of France up the bottom of Belgium via Givet and Dinant!!

seen this thread? https://www.ukgser.com/community/threads/sedan-the-new-bouillon.416973/

I have recommended Hotel St Michel in Sedan with secure parking (for bikes only in a courtyard) and a good restaurant in the thread.

As above, I would go back to the The Pelican in Charlie Mez except it would not work with my regular companions due to one person's difficulty with stairs. No lift at the Pelican
The Hotel St Michel in Sedan has a lift.

In case they are helpful for others - my take on these routes I edited up and used a few weeks ago
Please feel free to plagiarise as I did !
Both good 'pillion' frinendly routes for the day with lots of opportuities for coffee and cake stops !

Hi, yes I have and thank you. Unfortunately I can't get my size group in for two nights.

Eight (I know :DD )

amateur - I had 12 people across 9 rooms on the biggest trip I have organised. Only 5 of us this year in 3 rooms.

did you contact the hotel directly? Often, especially this early, the hotels will not have set prices yet for 2025 so rooms will not appear on the main booking sites yet.

places to try a little further but still near enough the Ardennes:
Givet Val St Hilaire https://maps.app.goo.gl/kPgfYvkysozwkZ558 - there's also an Ibis Budget nearby, my failsafe if stuck
Dinant: really good Ibis on the riverside https://maps.app.goo.gl/fEG5s9DUiRMbH7Tz5
Wiltz: https://maps.app.goo.gl/MRtb9tCmDjska5ra6 next to castle with brewery museum

All eight of us have landed in The Pelican Hotel in C.Mez.
