Last Friday I was paging through the August version of Ride and saw the above route. As I was going to be in Vianden for four days, I thought why not put it to the group as it was about an hour from where we were staying? Anyway, I did and they all wanted to go.

I downloaded the GPX file and tried to convert it into MRA and Calimoto. Both were corrupted so I ended up just writing an MRA copy. One of the guys managed to covert the MRA route into Calimoto whilst we were away. I have attached the MRA version. Bear in mind it will be different from the one in Ride as Simon Hargreaves had a different start and end point.

Anyway, it's a fantastic route and thoroughly recommended. It's a mixture of Northern Luxembourg type riding amongst forests, open fields and sweepers and hairpins etc. Of particular note was a group of hairpins above Piesport in the Moselle valley and the view it gave over the town and river, along with some great roads that drop you into the town.

I am awaiting photos from members of the group who have iPhones which are much better than my Android and I will post a few.

We stayed in the Hotel Victor Hugo in Vianden on this occasion and thought it was pretty good. It was 110 Euros per night, breakfast not included (14 Euros) and secure garage parking. I think it's fair to say that restaurant prices have noticeably increased in Vianden since last year but coffee and buns in Germany was still good value. Because of the date of our trip, Vianden was busy which gave it a nice vibe.

EDIT: I can't attach the route as it states that I'm not logged in? Anyway, I'll have another go later.

See addendum comment in post # 4.

Thank you.

For some unknown reason, the website (static1.squarespace.com) that hosts the RiDE magazine’s routes, is refusing to open.

EDIT: In a senior moment I have mixed up two routes in my post. The Piesport/Moselle valley comments relate to a Calimoto route we did the next day as this one was so good we returned to Germany, abandoning our planned rides in Luxembourg.

I have added a note to your opening post and amended the thread’s title very slightly.

Thank you for taking the time to post this and sharing your GPX file.

The suggested rides in RiDE magazine are generally pretty good, when one considers that they are published for an all but unknown audience of (probably) mixed ability riders on an assortment of motorcycles.

Thanks, Richard, I should do it more often but we don't take a lot of photos and I'm not a wordsmith in relation to trip reports.

Indeed, an amazing road leaving Peisport heading north. One of my favourites. Below photos taken June this year from one of the bends
