On Monday the 21st myself and Bonnie took Timpo up on his offer to take people laning in north Wales. We met up with Timpo at a farm belonging to a friend of his. The weather was good although it had rained hard the night before. We unloaded the bikes geared up and set off. We left the farm travelled a short distance on the road hung a right up a short flight of concrete steps and into a steady climb up a leafy narrow lane the first of many to come. Timpos knowledge of the area and the lanes was amazing. He knew what condition each lane was likely to be in and when necessary would offer advice on how to tackle them. We must have covered most types of terrain, deed muddy climbs, wet rock climbs and descents, loose rock, leafy single track and a good few very deep puddles. Bonnie can vouch for that. Some of the lanes myself and Bonnie knew from riding in the area before, but we had never managed to cover them at the pace Timpo set. I’m sure he was just going steady by his standards as he is a very good rider. About mid day we met a group of riders who had come down from Halifax. Stopped for a chat then away again. I’m not sure how many miles we covered on the day or even exactly where. We rode from lane to lane with short tarmac bits in between, some of these not being much better than the lanes.
We got back to the cars just as it started to go dark. Wet, muddy, tired, and very pleased with ourselves.
Thanks again Timpo for a grand day out and putting up with two slightly less than average riders. We must do it again sometime. If you can put up with us..........
