Hi,

Had my brand new r1200gs a week and dropped it in a car park.
No weeping please!

Have scuffed magnesium on left hand oil sump.
Can I tart this up? Should I bother? Should I replace part? What is the meaning of life?

Appreciate any help and solace.

Henry

These things happen. Whilst you'll be pretty upset now, you'll shrug it off in a few days :thumb As for repairing, depends how you feel about it.

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Have a beer and relax.

I did a similar thing and bought a set of Touratech covers, hides the scuff nicely at half the cost of a new cover.....:thumb

I think there is or was an LH cover on Ebay. However it may be a different finish on the 2008 model. Worth a look?

Hi,
Thanks for answering.
How much were the covers (if you don't mind me asking).
Cheers,
Henry

Hi,
Thanks for support.

Had a run in with a car about a week after I got mine, £800 damage to car, scuffed magnesium head for me and managed to stay on and therefore street cred intact, asked for similar advice and was told on here, "it's not damage, it's character", one year on still damaged and a few more off road drops to boot, life's too short, enjoy.

I scuffed the one on my R1100S lived with it until I dropped it again moving a little quicker! I'd say live with it but perhaps budget for buying a spare at some point that you only fit if you decide to sell.

i just stole the cylinder head covers off my hubbies 1200gsa...........covers all marks from when i dropped my bike..........sorted..

I wouldn't worry about it. They're rufty tufty bikes that are meant to look used. And I'll bet it's not the last time it'll be on it's side - mine's forever havin' a wee lie down :o

Correct me if I am wrong, but are the covers approx £100 each and not far off the similar cost of the protectors ?

The covers were about £120 I think, cant remember but bought them direct from www.touratech.com as they were cheaper than the distributers so just go online and check them out.
BMW`s look crap compared to them.
