OK, here's the deal.

I have for some time had a strange interest in war graves and have decided to do a 'wreckie' trip over to France to visit a few. I plan to go in the next few weeks, over a weekend, and camp in a tent. I have a small but good enough 2 man tent which i intend to use. I would like to do it alone, but would not be acerse to going over with someone, but wiould not want to turn it into a 25 bike cavalcade, those big ride-outs are just not for me i'm afraid!

Any tips, advice, campsite's, do's, dont's, would be really welcome..

The bike will be R1150 GSA.

The route will be on road, Off road on my own, with an 1150GSA, no, :augie

Thanks all,

Smudger.

Hi Smudger, if you are trying to find a specific person a good place to start is http://www.cwgc.org/
We went to the Somme and visited Thiepval, one of the largest memorials, about 72K are remembered here i think http://www.greatwar.co.uk/somme/memorial-thiepval.htm this forms part of a trail that takes about a day and covers numerous cemeteries/memorials/battlefields.
We were hoping to get back again this year and have a better look around.
I have some things bookmarked and will have a look through to see if I can find anything else of interest

I got chatting to a chap in Waterstones bookshop, he goes over there every year, he stays at a small guest house: http://www.avrilwilliams.com/ by all accounts it is very good and they have loads of knowledge of the area.

Smudger.

I'm free :D

You've got to see the American cemetary at Omaha, not far from Arromanche. Its the one shown at the start of Saving Private Ryan.

Do some homework before you go. They play a tune once a day, every day around 2pm IIRC but check up on it. Hearing this simple nursery rhyme in the massive cemetary is something you won't forget. :(

Hi Smudger, we just got back on Sunday, Try the Arromanches Municipal campsite.
or e-mail [email protected] we paid £17.50 for five days, including a shower token for every night.
Hope this helps.
Al.
