I'd like to buy a grease gun with the required fitting types for my 2V bikes , but also one I could maybe use on later GS1150 and F650 bikes as well.

Any recommendations ? :nenau

What are you going to grease on a paralever with a grease gun?

Please don't say the swinging arm bearings..

If you have a twin shock that needs the bearings greasing then motobins sell an adapter to fit any grease gun - Part number 99810

I found a grease nipple on my 89 PD, its bothering me its been neglected . :(

Newbie question,

So should I remove the grease that someone unknown has packed into said holes behind the plastic covers on my recently acquired 93 R80GS ?

What holes behind what covers ?

These plastic covers reveal a lock nut and swing arm pivot shaft, each shaft has a hole through the center, full of grease. Are these the the breather holes, and should I remove the grease, or have I lost the plot. :blast

On Mono's and twin shocks that hole in the center allows you to grease the pivot bearings, if you have the correct fitting for your grease gun.
On the Paralevers it is not quite as straightforward, as the paralever is hollow behind the bearings and not all bikes had a blanking plate behind the bearing to stop you filling up the paralever with grease.
If you have the fitting and the plate give it a couple or so decent pumps and you should see old, dirty grease coming out between the frame and the paralever - if you do keep going till clean stuff shows then clean off the surplus.
If you dont see any grease coming out it is going into the paralever and not the bearing so another approach is needed if you think the bearing needs lubed.

Wanner 315, pretty much an industry standard back in its day. So well made you should easily find a good one at the car boot or eBay

Filling a Wanner. Buy a tin of lithium grease, under the lid should be a plate with a hole in it, yes? Good. Pull back and latch the chain on the grease gun. Unscrew the grease cylinder from the gun, invert the grease gun cylinder and press down firmly on the plate with the hole in it. Grease should transfer from the tin to the grease gun cylinder filling it with no air incursion (which would be a pain in the arse). Screw cylinder back onto the gun, release chain and store it back into the cylinder. Bleed air from gun by releasing the two bleed valves and pumping lever, Your ready to go.

BTW, if the gun stops working, bleed the two screws again, air will likely pop out.

Coincidently, and before I'd seen this thread, I decided yesterday that some of my nipples were due a greasing on my old 250 Honda and equally old little Serow.
I dusted off my old faithful Wanner grease gun in readiness.
But, shock horror, nothing happened, it didn't work.

So last night I did a search of these 'ere forums and found this.
Today I followed ebbo's instructions and guess what, my Wanner is now greasing again like nothing had happened.

Marvellous.
Thanks very much ebbo.
