Im up early this morning in anticipation of a long ride through the Lake district.
Its 6.25 am, 5.3C outside and never fell below 4C all night. Wind 0 mph and a steady barometer reading. It should be perfect riding conditions.
That was my quote from yesterday morning, within minutes of clicking the mouse the temperature dropped and clouds appeared. No forecast mentioned rain but we were riding through freezing fog, mist and rain until the we reached Grassington.
Once the mist cleared riding conditions became much better. Dry roads and good visibility. As we approached the Lakes from Sedbergh the views of the snow capped mountains were stunning. There was still plenty of snow about and the road over Deepdale was still covered.
We rode along the narrowest of roads round the edge of the main Lake district, the front end of the bike had a very vague feel to it and several times we stopped to check the tyres and bearings etc. Once back on main roads everything went back to normal. We finished off the ride out at Roa island near Barrow.
By 4.30 we started back to Leeds, plenty of daylight left but it started to get very cold. The gritters were out in on the main roads.
