1100GS. Yes it is an ABS one but please read on..... been having the usual problems and looking for an answer; despite fine battery and sensors being properly adjusted the abs was only working when it felt like it. However i have discovered that the ABS will engage fairly reliably at start up, after i have rolled the bike backwards?? can anyone explain what the **** is going on?

So are you saying that the ABS doesn't always set when you ride off normally? What sequence of lights do you end up with?

Certainly a mystery - and will remain so with the amount of information you've supplied

Are you sitting on the bars and steering with the big thick black handlebars?

point taken

....ok I am sitting on the bike(handlebars in hands) I turn the keys the ABS lights flash both at the same time. I push the ignition button the bike starts but the ABS lights flash alternatly. I switch the ingnition off I role the bike backwards a few feet ( Iam still sat on it) I turn the ingnition on the abs lights are both flashing at the same time I press the button and both lights now go off and all is well.

Sound like elektikery. Mine does same if i haven't adjusted the throttles for a while and it starts taking a few more turns than usual to fire. More turns = more juice(batt) = abs hiccup = alternate lights flashing. Once started and warmed up a bit, switch of ign switch back on, start motor, abs OK. Also, it is intermittent. It reminds me to adjust the throttles :thumb

Rolling the bike backwards with the ignition OFF ain`t going to make any difference.

Sounds like your battery is a bit low,and you`ve got the classic symptom.... where you have to switch off not long after starting up,then on restarting the ABS sets itself.

Both mine have done that when the battery is even a tad below full charge or when they`re getting a bit old.....

Wot he ^^^^ says. I concur.

I presume the abs will work if you rolled the bike forward as well - mentioning just rolling backwards is a bit of a red herring -

Try turning the ignition on ( with all the lights and other electrical gizmos turned off), waiting for 5 seconds, then pressing the starter button .

One of the ABS checks is the battery voltage - if you happen to be pressing the starter button as it checks the battery voltage, it will register low voltage, and it switches the ABS off . So give it a few seconds to check and OK itself . :thumb

Thats not to say your battery isn't fecked, in which case, buy a new one . :D

EXACTLY what mine does. Think I'll go back to Pidcocks if it continues.
