Great write-up on the LC GS

But I still love mine!!

After the next nuclear war 2 things will remain on planet earth, cockroaches and 1150GSAs!

yes they are heavier
less power
slower
all you will get is heated grips
adventure looks pig ugly
instrumentation is archaic

did I say the adventure is pig ugly

At least the 1150GSA is hewn from metal and alloy, it looks like a real, proper motorbike and not a generic plastic BMW - the 12GSA could be a 12RT it has so much plastic all over it :barf

the 1150gsa has a metal tank*, the 1200gsa is plastic.

is there much else? i must admit i'm struggling.

*tends to get dented by the 100% plastic hand guards when the bike falls over. 1200 hand guards are partially metal, but don't dent the tank 'cos it's plastic :augie

Gotta say there are only two painted panels on the Waterboxer, the tank and beak........well OK maybe the bits in front of the legs but they don't count, so there!

So if you want sky blue, orange, pink, aubergine.......only two panels to paint........Simples!

Dulux non mould bathroom paint would be a cost effective solution for the Charlie Obi One overland types.......sorry chaps, just pulling your legs, honest.

You know what, you could be right :rob

I've been sat here for 30 minutes trying to think of a witty 'faux 1200 disser' comment based on something else that is hewn out of solid rock on the 1150 but is now plastic on the 1200, in order to put you straight, but I can't :nenau

Over to you JB :D

Really?

Believe me, my lebbenfiddy has spent more time laying down for a rest than most, and not once have I dented the tank :)

On rocks, sand, sandy rocks, rocky sand, snow, mud, ploughed fields, small children and roads :thumb2

I have however seen more plastic flying from crashes involving 1200s in the desert than I have with 11xx's
How many photos would you like to back this up? :augie

the 1150GSA has a tendency to flip on it's OEM crash bars. the hand guard rotates and dents the tank. this has been documented on ukgser.

whilst you have great experience of seeing this not happen, i have actually seen it myself.

i'd say 'ask trippy", but you probably wouldn't :D

...but it was only a small, and i thought amusing, little dig at the end of my post. i never really wanted to get in a debate about it.

in fact, if i never get in another debate about 1150 v 1200 GSs i'll be a much happier man. it's soooooo fucking tired, but i just can't help myself :blast

Mummy, mummy......................those nasty men on the internet are ganging up on me:tears:tears:tears

I was being:toungincheek - Plastic used on the 12 GS is the tank and tank panels, plus the rear rack and seat mounting area, which has come in for previous criticism from some quarters

For me, the amount of skimping (and cost saving) spoils it a bit for me, particularly in these areas

a) Lack of console for the clocks & headlight area

b)Incomplete rear inner mudguard, which allows so much road dirt, up under the seat to the toolkit/shock mount and battery area, plus additionally the rider's calves gets a pasting (without a Mudsling)

c)Incomplete sealing of rear light, lack of splash guard to that area

d) A poorly designed EWS/FPC system and a FD drive with some serious initial design flawa & consequences - that have to be modified over the years of production

Small points, but this would have cost BMW 'buttons' to address, whilst in development in 2002-2004 and would have only added a few grammes of weight to the bike

JB you should buy a guzzi.

some say they would have made them out of concrete, only they found a metal that was heavier :)

Well, I had a 1200GS and went through a road sign (not all my fault - was helped by some muppet who had left oil all over the road).. As far as I can remember all the plastics stayed in tacked. It was the metal bits that broke (and a few bone parts - on me not the bike :blast) frame, cockpit mounts, leavers......oh and the engine....:JB.

Would I have come off better on an 1150?

God how I hate my plastic TV and wish it was hewn from solid metal...
What a load of shite spouted on here....it's 2013 FFS. Move with the times you old toss bags

I feel uncomfortable about this pistonheads review. It's not 100% clear if the author was involved in the same test session as Kevin Ash, but his footer references the fatality and Alun Davies(ABR Mag) although injured, hasn't published....yet!
What would you do if you were a journalist involved with this incident ?
Is it business as usual and publish with a footnote or await any investigations :nenau Difficult one!
