Hi Everyone. I have just discovered the wonderful world of the GS. Cant decide what to get for my first GS, should i play safe with 650 or sail straight in to the S*** with a 1150 or 1200.
Cheers

Hey, Welcome aboard :thumb2

The 650 is a great bike. thats why I just bought a Dakar for playing on :D.

But the 1150 and 1200s are so much nicer to ride. Even as a compleat newbie to motorcycling you'll find them an easy introduction to bring on a bike.
If your not new to biking and are over 21 and over 5'6" and used to the usual midrange Jap bikes you'll find the 650 great fun and amazingly caperbal a lot of the time, but hard work on the A roads and Motorways when you trying to keep the pace up a bit.

Looks like S*** is still winning. :thumb

You'll find you're not alone on that there Island either. Look out for Little Beemer and Red Ken plus quite afew others too.

Val.

Ha Ha Too late  Hiya H :D

Another vote for the 1200, especially the late ones (prior to the facelift) when a lot of the problems seem to have be ironed out!

Go for the 1150, looks nicer than the standard 12, more character and more butch imo :hide unless you go for the 12adv, now that does look cool :D

Confused

Thank you for the tips , i think that i am more confused than ever. I had made my my mind up and decided the 650 was the one to start on but having read the replies im not too sure. Have been looking at the 1150's and they are tempting and more reasonable than the 1200's..

You'll find that 1150 riders are more reasonable too ;)

Seriously though take a test ride before you buy. The 650 is a very different bike from the boxers.

The big twins are an aquired taste and if you've never ridden a twin of any description then you may be in for a surprise  There is a world of difference between an 1150 and a 1200 as well. The 12's are smoother, lighter, more powerfull :green gri. The 1150's are more characterfull according to some :augie

Whatever you choose just don't stick to the tarmac or you'll have missed the point :thumb2

Go for the 1200. You will always be wanting it if you get the little one.

Its a much better ride and unless money or size are an issue

Enjoy:rob

Why do you consider a girlie bike:nenau
Go for the 12 and be a man for once in your life.:D:D:D:D

Take a day off and go to Bahnstormer and ride all of them. They probably won't have an 1150 to be fair... and then buy whichever you like most and can afford. Most of the "guys" that ride the big twins are raging whoopsies anyway :kissy2

I've got a 1200GS myself - managed to talk Mummy into letting me have one. :ymca

Talking sense

Yeah, Thanks for the advice. Makes sense and a good day out ''on the house''.:clap

Think youll find Barnstormers have got an 1150 gsa laying around ,, they had at the weekend .. PLUS plenty of tea/coffee cakes etc etc for free.. Make a day of it ,lol..
Happy hunting m8
